Beaches
The beach at El Rompido is approx 1km long and separated from the sea by a narrow stretch of land known as La Flecha. Ferries run regularly from the marina across the river, which is packed with little boats, to the unspoiled 12km long sands of La Flecha which run parallel with the coastline as far as Neuvo Portil to the east and into Islantilla to the west. There is also a boat crossing at Neuvo Portil beach.
Things to Do
The resort is home to the El Rompido Golf Course and the courses at Neuvo Portil, Bellavista and Islantilla are all within 20-30 minutes drive.
You can take a guided nature walk through the pine wooded trails and bird watching spots, go horse-riding along the beach or head off on a mountain bike into the nature reserves.
The waters are calm around El Rompido and you can hire catamarans and kayaks, go fishing or sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. In the evening, why not take a sunset cruise along the coast.
There isn't much in the way of historical monuments in El Rompido but the 2 lighthouses are fairly emblematic, the modern one being in use today and the other one dating being around 150 years old.
Out and About
There are some great seafood restaurants along the shores of the River Piedras and there is also a good choice of terrace bar, most of which serve tapas. The El Faro Shopping Centre, which as you might imagine is by the lighthouses, behind the marina, has a supermarket and a few shops, bars and restaurants.
Nearby Attractions
Aquopolis Cartaya Water Park makes for a family day out and is just 3km away. Punta Umbria is also just a short distance along the coast and you can take a guided tour around the town, its churches and museums or through the Enebrales Nature Park.
Huelva is approx 20 minutes drive away and here you can enjoy designer brand shopping in the city centre or learn of its strong connections with Christopher Columbus at Muelle de las Caravelas and the Rabida Monastery on the riverside.
Inland, the charming city of Seville or the Minas de Riotinto (where you can take a train journey through the colourful mining landscapes) can both be reached in approx 80 minutes drive.
