Playas de Fornells, Menorca, Spain

The resort is full of many exotic flowers and tropical plants and offers fantastic views over the bay from every angle. There are limited cafes, restaurants and supermarkets in the resort. Being one of the newer resorts makes it a little quieter and is just perfect for those looking for a quiet, peaceful holiday.

Nothing much outside the resort - food was nice though in the resort. We did B&B and ate at the hotel restaurant and also there is a few restaurants at the top of a very steep hill. Wouldn't recommend for people with walking difficulties, area very hilly.

Beaches

Playas de Fornells does have it's own sandy beach which leads to the larger beach of Cala Tirant which has shallow sandy bottoms and clear waters which make it safe for children and good for snorkelling. There are sun loungers and umbrellas to hire and a couple of beach bars/cafes for snacks. The beach can be reached by car or on foot via some wooden steps and walk ways.

The large bay at nearby Fornells is ideal for a variety of watersports and there is a dive centre at Playas de Fornells.

Things to Do

Lots of people enjoy walking along the coastal paths to take in the beautiful scenery and from here you will come across the Eco museum which also has a cafe at it.

The area is popular for watersports and you will find many opportunities at nearby beaches. There are also many dive centres in the area so it is possible to explore what%u2019s going on underwater as well as on dry land.

If you don%u2019t fancy going right under water, you could always take a boat trip on a glass bottomed boat to visit nearby resorts or secluded beaches.

Out and About

The resort isn't exactly jam packed with amenities but there are 3 bars and a restaurant and there are plenty of bars and restaurants in nearby resorts which are within walking distance. Again, shopping in the resort is limited but there is a handful of souvenir shops and specialist stores in Fornells village so whatever you need, you will find it nearby.

As you can imagine, there is no nightlife to speak of but take a trip to Ciudadella or Mahon and you will be spoilt for choice.

Nearby Attractions

Why not venture to Son Parc for a round of golf. Set in wooded countryside, you will be treated to beautiful surroundings and there is even putting green and driving range too. If you are still feeling energetic after your round of golf, you could have a quick game of tennis or you could just sit and relax at the bar/restaurant and watch others play instead.

Take a trip to the small town of Es Mercadel with pretty little streets and rustic whitewashed houses. Once you have finished exploring, you may want to climb Monte Toro, Menorca's highest mountain. There are some fantastic views to be seen from the top and there is also a small cafe for refreshments.

Alaior is also worth a visit and you will find a good selection of bars and restaurants here. There are also plenty of shops to wander round, including many clothes and shoe boutiques. There are also lots of bargains to be had at the weekly market. Stop and have an ice cream and watch the children play at the park on the town square. Alaior is also home to the Pons Quintana shoe factory so if you are looking for high quality leather shoes at bargain prices then this is the place to be.

Not only does Ciudadella have a great selection of shops and restaurants, there are also many historic things to see such as the 14th century gothic cathedral, a couple of museums and the remains of the fortified walls. For the perfect end to your day, venture down to the harbour for a drink and enjoy the atmosphere.

The capital, Mahon also has it's fair share of historic buildings such as La Mola, a gigantic fort which is located at the harbour side and the Baroque church of Santa Maria to name but a few. Many people come to Mahon to shop and will certainly not be disappointed. There are many bars and restaurants and nightclubs too, so it may well be worth saying over to take full advantage of what Mahon has to offer.
