It was beautiful lying by the beach and also went to the blue lagoon on quad bikes touring the island.

There aren't many attractions in Djerba especially for kids. I went there with my husband just for the kitesurfing so if you are interested with watersport there are around four spots you can kitesurf. Beaches are ok and water is very clear. There are some shops with souvenirs and ceramics, mirrors and lamps which are nice. There are many restaurants either for locals and got tourists in the touristic zone. Generally apart from watersport there is not much to do but still a nice place to go.

Beaches

Djerba is a beachlovers paradise! The island is renowned for its endless unspoilt sandy beaches and the best stretches can be found on the Northeast coast which is known as the Zone Touristique although most are privately owned by the resort hotels which can be found in that area.

The quieter beaches can be found between Aghir and el-Kantara.

Most beaches offer a good choice of watersports.

Things to Do

For those seeking to get away from the beach many travellers head to the capital of Houmt Souk where there are cobbled streets, craft and antique shops and colourful souks. The museum of Popular Arts shows details of the islands traditions and there are many popular mosques showing off Djerban architecture.

Inland from the capital is the Synagogue of el-Ghriba in er-Riadh (7 km away) which is the oldest in North Africa. The Ras Rmel peninsula is also a popular tourist spot which is home to flocks of flamingos and offers great swimming opportunities.

The popular attraction of Guellala is where pottery has been made since Roman times and is a good place to watch the sunset.

Out and About

Public transport is limited on the island however taxis are available at reasonable prices. Travellers can also hire motorbikes and bicycles however roads are basic and narrow.

There is a main bus station at Houmt Souk with services to the mainland.

Interesting Facts

The International Ulysse Festival of Djerba runs from the beginning of July to the end of August which includes theatrical and musical performances and the streets become very busy with activities.

The Festival of pottery at Guellala is held in August and runs for ten days and aims to promote the pottery industry.
