How Hot?

The Antalya region is nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and the Taurus Mountains providing shelter from the cold northerly winds.

The Mediterranean climate provides hot and dry summers in the mid-eighties, and can rise into the 100s during the months of July and August. The winter months can be wet, with highs of around 50ºF.

Out and About

Often referred to as the Turkish Riviera as one of Turkey's most upmarket areas, the Antalya region is located on the Mediterranean coast offering the ideal combination of pristine beaches, turquoise waters, great nightlife, beautiful scenery, historical sights, luxury hotels and numerous leisure activities.

There are a large number of challenging golf courses to be found in Belek, backed by dramatic scenery. Some of the larger hotels offer deluxe spas coupled with championship golf courses and even a links course.

Golf isn't the only sport that's all the rage here, sun-worshipping is ever popular and if that doesn't take your fancy there's an abundance of watersports on offer as well as many sightseeing spots to visit.

Some must-see places worth a visit if staying in the area include; Hadrian's gate in Antalya's old town; Aspendos, famous for its well preserved Roman theatre is situated around 40km from the city of Antalya; historic ruins in Side which includes the theatre and gate, and Side's trademark temples of Apollo and Athena; another popular trip for many tourists is the Manavgat waterfall, found around 65km from Antalya and only 7km from Side.

The Antalya region offers a mixture of Central Asian, Balkan and Middle Eastern cuisine, with great Turkish influences, where the coastal resorts are overflowing with restaurants, traditional cafes and fast food stalls.

Restaurant menus feature a wide choice of fish and seafood dishes, traditional Turkish mezes and meat dishes, a variety of kebabs as well as the to be expected international cuisines.

The region has a few local specialities these include mussels stuffed with pine nuts often found by street sellers, Piyaz a salad made with dry beans, vegetables and hard-boiled egg, and the Grida fish which is common in this area. If you are a fan of aubergine (eggplant), be sure to try the stuffed aubergine dish known as 'patlican dolmasi' or the aubergine salad named 'patlican salatasi'.
