Cheap Holidays to Jamaica

Jamaica is known for it's finest sand and golden beaches, not to forget the reggae and rum, clear water and coral reefs. The capital is Kingston which is often considered the cultural heart of Jamaica. With plenty of nature, sun, sea and sand there is lots to experience in this dreamy island. Although Jamaica is very laid back there are some more lively areas such as Ocho Rios which is one of the islands liveliest with loads of bars and restaurants

How Hot?

The warmth and sunshine of Jamaica's tropical climate, even during the rainy season makes it ideal to visit anytime of the year. The islands average annual temperature is between 80-86ºF with the coolest months being January and February, and the hottest months typically July and August.

Jamaica's hurricane season generally falls between August and October. While the likelihood of a direct hit is small, if travelling during hurricane season, we recommend you check your travel insurance policy before you leave, and shop around if necessary to make sure you have the necessary cover.

Out and About

People are attracted to Jamaica for many different reasons, for some it's the beautiful beaches, the first-class golf courses or perhaps it's the many watersports and activities available here so whatever you enjoy doing on holiday you will not be disappointed with what Jamaica has to offer.

Northern coast resorts such as Montego Bay and Ocho Rios tend to be quite lively, while the likes of Falmouth and Runaway Bay tend to be quieter and a little more laid-back but still have plenty to offer.

Jamaica is well known for it's beaches and there are plenty of watersports available. Although windsurfing, jet-skiing, waterskiing and surfing are all very popular, there are plenty of opportunities for scuba diving and snorkelling too.

White water rafting is also very popular and with courses for both beginners and experts it makes a great alternative to standard watersports. Many people enjoy hiring a bamboo raft along with someone to guide them through the gentle waters of the Rio Grande River, making it a great way to see the surrounding mountains and rainforests.

Other activities include trips to coffee and pineapple plantations, crocodile farms, nature reserves, colonial mansions, the Bob Marley Mausoleum and fantastic caves and waterfalls or if you want to explore the Jamaican countryside, why not go for a trek on horseback.

Something not to be missed on a holiday to Jamaica is a visit to the Blue Mountain and John Crow Mountain National Park which is simply stunning. The area of mountain forest has more than 800 species of endemic plants and is one of the largest migratory bird habitats in the Caribbean. It is best to arrange for a guide to
show you the park either on foot or by 4WD vehicle.

Jamaica's most famous and popular attraction has got to be the Dunn's River Falls, a truly outstanding attraction with 600 feet of climbing pleasure. Groups of people climb the falls holding hands to make it a little safer and you will get wet so swimwear is perfect plus a pair of sensible shoes that you don't mind getting wet. It really is great fun and is something a little different. Not suitable for young children.

So whether it's luxury and relaxation or activities galore, then a visit to Jamaica is just perfect.

Out for Lunch!

Jamaican cuisine is a mixture of Indian, Chinese, British and Spanish influences along with a wide variety of spices and flavours.

You can enjoy a typical breakfast of boiled green bananas, fried dumplings, ackee and saltfish. Traditional main meals include the famous Jerk chicken, curry goat, corned beef and cabbage and steamed fish. Most of the food served in Jamaica is made of unprocessed food making it extremely healthy.

Feeling brave, why not try the scotch bonnet pepper. It is an essential ingredient of Jamaican cooking due to its distinctive flavour. Pimento is an essential ingredient to make Jerk Chicken a must try whilst here. The most common fruit in Jamaica is the coconut as it is widely available all over the island.

If you want a true Jamaican experience dine with the locals, they will show you all the ropes and some of the best foods to try. There are numerous fast food outlets scattered about as well as food carts around the town.
