How Hot?

Barbados is an all year round holiday destination although people tend to travel more from mid December to April when its colder elsewhere. Temperatures hardly ever drop below 75 degrees in the Winter (December to March) and steadies itself at about 85 in the Summer. Humidity is high during the hurricane season which is generally June- December. Cooling trade winds favour the Island most of the year.

Out and About

The island of Barbados is easy to explore, being just 21 miles long and 14 miles wide with good network of roads. There are plenty of things to see and do on your holiday to Barbados but, to sum it up in a sentence we would suggest you .. Soak up the sounds of the reggae, jazz and calypso music; discover the purity of the east coast and fabulous beaches of the west coast; visit a rum shop and simply lime with locals.

Every Sunday, the Barbados National Trust organise a variety of free hikes for all abilities, through the canefields, coastal villages and tropical forests.

On the west coast the white sand beaches are perfect for sunbathing and the clear waters are calm and ideal for swimming, snorkelling and kayaking. For wind-surfing, kite-surfing and boogie-boarding choose the beaches on the south coast and for extreme surfing head for the wild shores of the east coast.

Inland the island has a wealth natural and scenic locations and opportunities to get off the beaten track. Stroll through the enchanted Welchman Hall Gully, capture the panoramic vistas and tranquillity of the Flower Forest and visit the spectacular Harrisons Cave.

Offshore the waters are teeming with corals and colourful marine-life for you to explore on a scuba diving excursion or submarine ride and boat trips range from sport fishing to sunset catamaran cruises.

Dining in Barbados takes many forms from full on formal table service to the vendors lining the streets. If you're of the laid back attitude why not try some of the many dishes on the streets? These include fried conch fritters or grilled pigtails. Be brave and daring, some really great food can be found cooked on the streets and brings a whole new meaning to Al Fresco!

Restaurants are casual at lunchtime and tend to be more formal as the sun goes down with many restaurants offering the national dish Flying Fish. Whatever experience you choose there are many many tastes and cuisines available. Be brave, be daring and above all, be Bajan!
