Hisaronu is a charming hill town in Turkey, located only a short distance from the absolutely stunning Mediterranean coast. Since its redevelopment and modernisation over a decade ago, this quaint location in the foothills has attracted thousands of visitors making the most of the cheap holidays available. Many of them come to Hisaronu for the warm and sunny climate, fantastic facilities and the rustic charm of the surroundings. The plentiful bars, restaurants and shops are great for summer holidaymakers and for those feeling a little more energetic there is ample opportunity for walking in the hills.
Hisaronu and the Fethiye area in general is absolutely stunning, renowned for its rugged landscape contrasted with flat clear azure water and bright white sandy beaches; the most famous being a crescent shaped sandy stretch of gold. The beach front closest to Hisaronu is the "Turquoise Coast" which is perfectly named as it has the clearest azure blue water that any holidaymaker could hope to enjoy. The coastline is filled with secluded bays and secret coves reached by winding forest paths. The resort enjoys a unique climate; as it is slightly higher up on the hill, the additional altitude affords it a cooler and less humid atmosphere with cooling breezes from the sea. This means it rarely gets uncomfortably hot.
The town itself is home to many quaint old Turkish house and cobblestoned streets, although since the late 1980s it has been redeveloped. Nowadays it boasts a wide range of accommodation. There are large hotels, time share apartments and self catered flats all on offer depending on whether your budget stretches to luxury breaks or you are aiming at cheap holidays. Many of them come with their own facilities such as large swimming pools, solaria, childcare options and even pampering spas.
There is never any shortage of activities in Hisaronu, with everything from water skiing to paragliding to food tasting on offer. The most obvious way to spend your time in Hisaronu is by wandering down to the spectacular crescent Oludeniz beach, enjoying the hammocks, sun loungers and shady umbrellas. However some of the more adventurous guests might want to try something new, such as paragliding from the top of Babadag Mountain to the beach below, or canoeing down the Xanthos river to Patara. Over the years, international guests have also brought a range of activities with them and so you can now enjoy paintballing in the pine forests of the mountain!
Excursion days are always popular with tourists. One highly recommended trip is a visit to the traditional Turkish bazaar in Fethiye where you can really get a taste of the local culture and snap up a few bargains for souvenirs. It is customary to haggle in this part of the world so make sure you get a good deal! Another popular excursion is to the Greek island of Rhodes as it is not too far by boat and a great way of getting a feeling for a very different culture in just a day. There is also a chance to visit the rather mysterious "ghost town" of Kayakoy.
For the less adventurous, boat tours around the Turkish shore can be really beautiful, especially those taken in the glass bottomed boat as you can see all of the underwater sea creatures around the reefs. The surrounding mountainside of Hisaronu also provides spectacular views over a beautiful and rugged local landscape. Hikers and walkers particularly enjoy days out to the summits of the hills.
Although peaceful, quiet and relaxing, Hisaronu has a vibrant night life scene. There are numerous bars and clubs which in the summer often stay open past dawn. Holidaymakers to this part of the world will find anything and everything from fancy dress themed nights to Turkish cultural music nights with traditional music and belly dancers, through to British 60s rock music as well as current pop and rap music. Restaurants here also vary greatly with some cooking traditional Turkish cuisine, a delightful mix of spiced meats, cous cous and breads, while others stick to international classics such as Chinese or American inspired food.
Despite being a relatively unknown destination for cheap holidays in comparison to the southern coasts of Spain or Portugal, this little gem is not only absolutely stunning but offers a superb range of accommodation, activities and cuisine and a chance to really explore the local culture. With cheap holidays to Hisaronu on offer, it's not hard to see why this gorgeous part of Turkey is becoming increasingly more popular with tourists from all over the world.
