Gozo

Gozo has beautiful sandy coves and beaches, and it is possible to find very quiet locations away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Gozo is accessed via ferry which takes just 30mins from Cirkewwa found at Malta's most northern tip, alternatively its possible to fly by helicopter from Malta's International Airport, journey time of just 15mins.

Beaches

The best beach on the island is at Ramla Bay; it's wide golden-red sands are backed by greenery and the waters are good for swimming. On opposite sites of the island, Marsalforn Bay (east) and Xlendi Bay (west) both have a small harbour and a small beach with clear waters for snorkeling, scuba diving and swimming. There is also a small sandy beach and sunbathing platform at Hondoq Bay, on the south of the island, where you can snorkel and admire views to Comino.

Things to Do

In Xaghra, visit the important archaeological site of the Ggantija Temples. The temples are so named, according to legend, because they were built by giants. Given that it was constructed over 5000 years ago and some of the stones in the surrounding wall are 5 metres tall; maybe they were!

Dwejra boasts some great scuba diving spots, tidal pools and a shallow inland sea, as well as famous rock formations including the Azure Window and the legendary Fungus Rock.

At Ta' Pinu, walk amid the life-size statues along the Via Crucis and visit the small and reverent 16th century Ta' Pinu Sanctuary.

Between Dwejra and Ta' Pinu, on the outskirts of Gharb and close to the Kempinski Hotel, you can visit the small Ta' Dbiegi Craft Village which house half a dozen artisan workshops, selling handmade glass, silver, lace and leather items.

Out and About

For shopping, cafe culture, museums and historic interest, visit the capital of Victoria. Admire views across the island from the fortified walls of the Citadel and see it's Old Prison and the Cathedral. Stroll around the ancient streets and take a break in the Rundle Gardens. The Arkadia Shopping Mall is open 7 day a week and has a large supermarket plus 4 floors of designer and high street brands. There is also a daily market held in Independence Square.

There are plenty of bars and restaurants around the island and nightlife is low key; enjoy a meal watching the sunset or overlooking one of the bays.

Nearby Attractions

The ferry terminal at Mgarr Harbour operates regular crossings throughout the day for cars and foot passengers to the island of Malta and takes just 20-30 minutes each way. You can also take boat trips to the Comino and the Blue Lagoon.
