Beaches

The attractive sea front walk way runs the entire length of Playa Blanca (approx 9km) and is punctuated with 3 lovely beaches, the Rubicon Marina, the Playa Blanca harbour, shopping and dining areas and spectacular views to the island of Fuerteventura.

In addition to the golden sands of Playa Blanca and the sheltered, white sand bays of Playa Dorada and Playa Flamingo there are 6 further beaches on the outskirts of the resort, known as the Papagayo beaches. Whilst the resort beaches are backed by the coastal path, well serviced and close to bars and restaurants; the sandy Papagayo beaches are remote and backed by cliffs and the natural scenery of the Los Ajaches natural park.

Things to Do

Playa Blanca harbour is your gateway for a day trip to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura, with ferry crossings from Playa Blanca to Corralejo taking just 20 minutes. Fishing trips, submarine tours and water-taxis to the Papagayo beaches are also readily available.

There are 2 water parks in Playa Blanca, the Aqua Lava at the Lanzasur Club which has a lazy river, fun slides for children and a wave pool and, a little further back from the coast, the Dino Park at the Paradise Island Hotel. The Dino Park boasts a great range of slides for all ages, from the freefall kamikaze slide to toboggan runs and spiral slides. There is also a lazy river and splash zone for the youngsters.

Trips to the Timanfaya National Park are readily available and the extent of the lava fields surrounded by craters really does make for a fascinating sight.

Out and About

The Rubicon Marina provides a chic setting for a drink or a meal at any time of the day or evening and is pleasant just to stroll across the plaza and along the boardwalks, admiring the yachts and watching the fish. The Marina also houses boutique shops, an art gallery, a supermarket, tennis courts, a sailing school and a diving centre. In addition, the Rubicon is the venue for the colourful street market which is held on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

From the Dino Park, or almost anywhere near that area, you should be able to see the deep red walls of the Montana Roja. It is a fairly steep, but easily managed, walk along the trail to the summit of this extinct volcano and walking around the rim of the crater will reward you with stunning views. Facing south, you can see all along the coast from the Faro de Pechiguera lighthouses to the Papagayo beaches and across to Fuerteventura. Facing northwards, the views are of the west coast and to the distant Timanfaya mountains.

For some traditional rural charm, head out to the white-washed mountain village of Femes (8km) and enjoy a Canarian meal with stunning views over the countryside and Playa Blanca.
