There are so many activities to enjoy such as watersports, waterparks and historical sites and monuments, it really does have something for everyone and proves to be a very popular holiday resort.

How Hot?

Enjoying over 300 days of sunshine a year, Menorca summers are hot and the winters mild.

Tourist season runs from May to October when temperatures are generally in the mid-seventies at the beginning and end of season, while the peak months of June-August are in the eighties.

Out and About

Menorca has more beaches than the rest of the Balearic Islands put together but offers a much quieter atmosphere than its larger neighbour, Majorca, making it a great family resort. There are many resorts situated along the shoreline with the two largest being Mahon, the capital of Menorca and Ciutadella, the ancient capital of Menorca.

Menorca is said to be an open air museum and has one of the largest collections of megalithic monuments (standing stones) in the Mediterranean. There are more than 2000 of these monuments throughout the island with some of the earliest dating back to 2,500 BC. Ciutadella is home to a 13th Century Cathedral so come and take a look in the cathedral and the museum to learn a little about the past.

A lot of the resorts have weekly markets which offer a whole host of goods and produce. For those who want to spend some time shopping for souvenirs, there are plenty shops in Ciutadella and Mahon but be aware that siesta is still observed in some places and you may find a lot of shops and banks close between 2pm and 5pm each day.

For a great family day out, why not visit one of the waterparks on the island. The one in Cala%u2019n Blanes has loads of different water rides, whereas the one in Cala%u2019n Bosch does have a selection of water rides but it also has some trampolines and arcade games. There is also a family entertainment park just outside Ciutadella which offers swimming pools, sand pits, trampolines, mini golf and a climbing wall so whatever age the kids are they will be well entertained.

The clear seas and beautiful beaches make the area popular for a variety of outdoor sports such as parasailing, windsurfing, scuba diving and of course there are many organised boat trips. If you prefer to explore on land, why not do a spot of horse riding or simply wander through all the different trails and paths to explore this glorious island.

Menorcan cuisine is very Mediterranean based and has a lot of seafood in it. You can get every kind of cuisine throughout the island from International through to a more traditional menu. Menorca has a claim to fame for Mayonnaise. It was first made in Mao in the 18th century by a French chef. The meat products on the island are known for their quality and flavour. A typical meat dish to try is Sobrasada, pork sausage meat made with red peppers.

The island has a good choice of dining facilities from luxury 5 star restaurants through to street corner snack bars and cafes. The street snack bars and cafes offer a good selection of traditional snacks as well as American style snacks. Enjoy a luxury meal from an International menu or a more traditional menu.
