Out and About
Egypt offers a huge diversity of holiday experiences from endless ancient sights and historic attractions to niles cruises, desert safaris and the clear blue diving waters of the Red Sea.
Cairo and Gisa sit side by side across the banks of the River Nile and here you are going to see the famous Pyramids of Giza, the Great Sphinx and the Pyramids of Dashur. In the city of Cairo there are endless museums, mosques and markets to explore and the gardens of Al Azhar Park provide peaceful respite with panoramic views over the city. Top attractions include the impressive Egyptian Museum, Abdeen Palace, the Mosque of Mohammed Ali and the Mosque of Ibu Tulin.
Further up the river, in the Nile Valley, Luxor is another prime destination for discovering the ancient wonders of Egypt. Here you will find Luxor Temple, the Temples of Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens, Deir el Medina and the Colossi of Memnon. A little further south, at the beautifully located Aswan you can browse the souk, visit Elephantine Island and the Aswan Museum, discover Nubian villages and visit the Aswan Botanical Gardens and ruins of ancient Abu.
Resorts along the Red Sea Coast include ever popular Hurghada, the picturesque Makadi Bay, the prestigious Soma Bay, laidback El Quseir and the quieter resorts of El Gouna and Marsa Alam. These beach resorts are ideal for taking safaris into the eastern desert and of course, to take advantage of world class diving and snorkelling waters. Historic attractions include the Ottoman Fortress and the Faran Mosque at Al Quseir. Leisure attractions include the stunning marina and golf club at El Gouna, the Sindbad and Makadi water parks at Hurghada
On the Sinai Peninsula, the cosmopolitan and lively resort of Sharm el Sheikh and neighbouring resorts including Naama Bay are perfectly located for the colourful underwater world at the Ras Mohammed National Park. This coast is lined with beaches and coves and a top destination for snorkelling and diving. There are many leisure and tourist facilities such as golf courses, marinas, bars and nightclubs. Away from the beach you can visit St Catherines Monastery or take a safari into the Sinai desert and mountains.
On the Gulf of Aqaba, the resorts of Taba and Dahab offer a beach front setting with a more relaxing atmosphere and authentic Egyptian flavour than some of the Red Sea resorts. The order of the day here is s simply snorkelling, diving and relaxing at a beach bar or, you can take a safari by jeep, quad bike or camel into the desert and colourful mountains.
Out for Lunch!
In Egypt bread forms the main backbone of the Egyptian diet and is consumed with almost every meal. In the larger cities like Cairo you can find various forms of cuisine from traditional through to International cuisine. Most traditional restaurants served meat and fava bean dishes, a typical Egyptian dish.
Whilst staying in Egypt you can dine in a variety of restaurants serving anything from traditional to International cuisine. You will find Italian, Mexican, Japanese and Sushi restaurants all over the country. The larger cities have Western style fast food chains like KFC and Mcdonalds, but these can be fairly expensive. There are small stand up shops serving Egyptian version of fast food like shawirma-lamb cooked on a spit.
