Beaches

If you are seeking picture postcard white sand beaches, backed by lush greenery and turquoise clear waters filled with colourful tropical fish, you won't be disappointed. In the south you have Store Bay, a well serviced public beach and the picturesque Pigeon Point which has a small entrance fee.

On the Caribbean coast, Englishmen's Bay is both pretty and secluded; Buccoo Bay is protected by the reef and ideal for swimming; Culloden Bay is perfect for snorkelling; the long sands of Turtle Beach shelve gently into the sea and the beaches of Castara Bay are also good for swimming.

Things to Do

Take a glass bottom boat trip over the coral reefs, go sailing and dolphin spotting or take a romantic sunset catamaran cruise. Between October and June, it's the deep sea fishing season when the waters surrounding Tobago are teeming with marlin, swordfish, sailfish and other big game fish.

Many watersports are available at Buccoo Bay such as banana boat and ringo rides, kayaks, wake boarding and windsurfing, parasailing and water skiing. Scuba diving and snorkeling are popular all around the island, with over 50 dive sites and numerous coral reefs to choose from.

Horse-riding, mountain biking, hiking and off road safaris provide an adventurous opportunity to explore the rainforests, traverse country lanes and old plantations, see the waterfalls and discover hidden beaches.

Out and About

Tobago is pretty uncommercialised; there are a few supermarkets in the south of the island but mainly provisions come from small local shops and roadside stalls.

There is a good choice of restaurants around the island but nightlife is low key and evening entertainment tends to be provided by the hotels.

Nearby Attractions

The Tobago Cocoa Estate is located just outside Roxborough (on the east coast) and offers heritage tours of the estate as well as evening dinners, rum and chocolate tasting.

The Arnos Vale Adventure Farm is set amid 12 acres and is a working organic farm where you can pick your own fruit, stroll through the tropical gardens and see a wide array of tropical birds that inhabit the 'bush'.

Overlooking the Mt Irvine Golf Course, the Kimme Museum houses over 100 life-size and giant-size, Caribbean inspired sculptures hand carved from oak and cast in bronze.

The botanical gardens at Scarborough offer a beautiful place to relax and are set in 10 acres. Also at Scarborough you have the cruise ship port and the well preserved Fort King George, which houses the Tobago Museum.
