How Hot?

St. Lucia has a tropical climate, where the temperature doesn't fluctuate much between winter and summer, averaging around 83ºF during the day.

Dry season runs from December to June, with the remainder of the year the rainy and hurricane season.

While the likelihood of a direct hit is small, if travelling during hurricane season, we recommend you check your travel insurance policy before you leave, and shop around if necessary to make sure you have the necessary cover.

Out and About

Wide palm-backed beaches, authentic Caribbean sounds and smells, majestic mountains and verdant rainforests, all contribute to create an island as perfectly suited for relaxation as it is adventure. St Lucia is easy to explore and at just 43.5 km long and 22.5km wide packs in a complete package of things to do for families, honeymooners and active souls alike.

Snorkellers will love the colourful underwater world and coral reef just off of Anse Chastanet Beach and thrill seekers will enjoy fabulous views zip-lining through the tree-tops of the rainforest at the TreeTop Adventure Park. There is a myriad of trails for walkers, hikers and cyclists to meander through plantations and scenic countryside and opportunities for horse-riding tours and off road safaris.

Marigot Bay is a picturesque spot from which to admire the yachts in the Marina, take a boat trip or go snorkelling, diving and kayaking; relax on the beach and take lunch in the village. There is also a Marina at Rodney Bay; where the Reduit Beach offers a wide variety of watersports and safe swimming waters. If Reduit Beach becomes a little busy, take a water taxi to Pigeon Island, relax on the quieter golden sands and enjoy a picnic in the national park.

Castries, the capital of St Lucia has a cruise ship terminal and duty free shops at Pointe Seraphine; a mall on Jeremie Street and a colourful market where you can find local produce and hand-crafted items. Also on Jeremie Street, the high-tech and interactive Our Planet provides a fascinating visitor experience. There are a few historic points of interest in the town including La Toc Military Fort and the Derek Walcott Square and the most spectacular view point over Castries and the harbour can be seen from Morne Fortune.

In and around Soufriere, on the south-west coast, you can take a guided walk along the Tet Paul Nature Trail with fabulous views to Jalousie Bay and the Pitons, Maria Island and Martinique. Other nearby natural attractions to visit include the Diamond Waterfall and the Sulphur Springs Park where you can bathe in the warm volcanic mud and mineral waters

A little further south of Soufriere, the much photographed Piton Mountains sit next to Piton Bay and there are opportunities to take a guided hike up the larger one for amazing views over the island.

Out for Lunch!

St. Lucia has many all-inclusive resorts offering buffets with international dishes and first class restaurants featuring gourmet cuisine. Many of the islands restaurants are open air and often in idyllic locations providing the perfect backdrop to enjoy your meal.

In the tourist areas of St. Lucia you can expect to find most cuisines, from pizza and fast food, to Creole, Indian, Mexican and Asian. And of course almost every restaurant offers fresh fish and seafood dishes.

The Friday night Fish Fries in Gros Islet and Anse-la-Raye are both popular tourist attractions, this outdoor party provides a great opportunity to enjoy some freshly caught and prepared fish in a vibrant atmosphere with local music and rum.

St. Lucia's cuisine is influenced by Creole, West Indian and French food; popular local dishes include a pepper pot stew, callaloo soup (a leaf vegetable similar to spinach) and fried codfish. St. Lucia's national dish is green figs and salt fish.

To drink like a local is easy on St. Lucia, the many home grown fruits turn into the most refreshing tropical fruit juices, or drink directly from a coconut and enjoy the thirst-quenching coconut water. Try a local 'shandy' made with beer, ginger ale and lemon, or the local rum from the islands very own distillery.
