Turunc

Turunc has plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants serving both Turkish and international cuisines. The resort is very compact and it is possible to walk from one end to the other in less than half an hour, that is of course there are no stops to browse in shops or stops to get a little refreshment on the way. The main street closes to traffic at night.

Marmaris is 20km away and Dalaman Airport is around 50km, about a 2 hour transfer.

Beaches

The Blue Flag beach at Turunc runs from the north end to the harbour at the south end. There are sunbeds available and at the south end there is a variety of bars and restaurants for drinks and snacks throughout the day.

The clear, calm seas make it perfect for a variety of watersports such as windsurfing, jet skiing, kite boarding and for those who like the more relaxed approach, pedalos.

Things to Do

There is a variety of archaeological sites in the area and you can see all sorts of things such as ancient burial tombs, Roman and Lycian amphitheatres and underground cities that have been carved out of volcanic rock, ideal for anyone who loves ancient history.

There are also many walking and hiking trails in the area so come and explore the wild rivers, meadows and waterfalls and enjoy the scenery. The trails to Amos Bay and Kumbuluk are particularly scenic with some amazing panoramic views and worth checking out.

Boat trips are also popular and will take you to secluded beaches, snorkelling reefs and ancient coastal villages. You may even be lucky enough to catch sight of some dolphins or flying fish. This really is a great way to explore the area and is also a fun, relaxing day out for all the family.

For the more adventurous, there is the jeep safari that speeds along the off-road trails to explore the coastal paths, ravines and forests. You will also see lots of wildlife and may be lucky enough to see eagles and wild boars.

For a quiet afternoon, visit the Tea Garden which is popular with both locals and tourists. It is situated on the main street, by the river bridge and provides a shady place to relax and enjoy some apple tea or local beer and grab a bite to eat while watching the world go by.

Out and About

There is a decent range of shops in Turunc which includes several mini markets, 2 bakeries, hairdressers and some gift shops for souvenirs to take home as a momento of your time in Turunc. The market comes to town every Monday and is situated close to the harbour. There are loads of stalls that offer a variety of goods such as fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, honey, clothes, leather goods, towels and various ornaments.

There is a good selection of bars in Turunc and while none of them provide all night entertainment, you will find some with the odd quiz or perhaps karaoke whilst enjoying a late night drink.

There are plenty of restaurants and you will easily be able to dine somewhere different each night if you are here for 2 weeks. With such a variety, you will be able to find something to your taste and budget, whether it be traditional Turkish food or something more European.

Nearby Attractions

There is the famous mud baths of Dalyan which are about half an hours drive from Ovacik. Here you can wallow in the mud then wash it off in one of the hot springs. Not only is this very relaxing but it is also great for cleansing the skin and you do feel great after it. Some might prefer to visit a traditional Turkish Bath in one of the local hotels.

If you don't mind sitting on a bus for a few hours then you can visit the amazing Ephesus. The ancient city of Ephesus has so many monuments and relics such as an amphitheatre which was able to hold up to 24000 people at a time, the Hadrian Temple the library of Celsus and of course the Temple of Artemis which is one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Although it is a good bit away it is a great day out and well worth seeing.

You could travel to Marmaris and take part in a horse safari, it's great fun and a great way to check out the beautiful landscape and surrounding environment.
