Indian shores very pleasant beach, but need to drive to get to most bars/shops etc. We drove through St Pete Beach, which looked more commercialised, but we were happy to walk over to Indian Shores from our condo most days.

Wow! What a place. St Johns pass just down the road from Treasure Island (not actual St Pete Beach where we stayed) amazing beaches, white sand and the sea was like a warm bath, which is amazing for mid-October. St Johns Pass itself is like the Florida Keys with its shanty huts with restaurants and bars and shops. With the Dollar v Sterling exchange rate at the minute, the UK pound does not stretch as far as it used to. But the value for money out weighs this. Plenty of opportunity to take a sightseeing trip from the Harbour area, though we never tried this, jetskis seemed to be all the rage and quite a few were hired along with the Pirate boat sightseeing trip. Just don't tell too many people about this place, it's amazing and we love the fact that not too many Brits holiday there.

There are a number of beautiful beaches found along the Gulf Coast between St Pete's Beach and Clearwater to the north; these include Belleair Beach, Indian Rocks Beach, Indian Shores, Redington Shores, Madeira Beach, Treasure Island and Pass-A-Grille beach just south of St Pete's Beach. Between them they offer miles of pristine white sandy shores and plenty of opportunity for relaxing, sandcastle building, wave jumping and enjoying a multitude of watersports.
Things to Do
Visit the downtown area of St. Petersburg, 16 km from the beach area, here you can explore its cultural side where you'll find the Dali Museum, the Chihuly Collection of blown glass work, the Museum of Fine Art and the Florida Holocaust Museum. The area also offers plenty of shops, bars and restaurants.
Just south of St Pete's Beach is the Fort DeSoto Park; covering five islands this 900-acre county park is situated at the entrance of Tampa Bay, with over 3 miles of white sandy beach, there's also fishing piers, canoe and nature trails, playgrounds and a historical fort.
Johns Pass Village and Boardwalk on Madeira Beach is approx 10km from St Petes, and is a popular tourist attraction with a variety of unique shopping and dining options; as well as jet-ski and boat rentals, parasailing, fishing and dolphin watching trips.
Out and About
There are a number of shopping areas around St. Pete's Beach and the Corey Avenue district has been one of them for over six decades. Corey Avenue offers unique boutiques, speciality stores, gift shops and great dining choices. 8th Avenue by Pass-a-Grille beach is a small shopping street lined with a number of interesting shops and at the end of the avenue is Merry Pier, boarding point for the Shell Key shuttle.
For those visiting without a car the Suncoast Beach Trolley offers a regular service which runs from the north end of St Petes Beach with stops all the way up to Clearwater Beach.
Clearwater Marine Aquarium is not your typical aquarium, this is a working hospital dedicated to the rescue, rehab and release of marine animals. Here you can take a behind-the-scenes tour, get up close with animals, feed stingrays, sharks and pelicans, and cruise on an interactive boat safari. While the Florida Aquarium in Tampa is home to more than 20,000 aquatic animals and plants, there's plenty to keep all the family entertained. Offering the opportunity to dive with sharks, swim with fishes and face to face encounters with a penguin. There's also a kids splash pack and wild dolphin cruises available.
There are plenty of opportunities for fun days out along the Gulf Coast; the ultimate family adventure park of Busch Gardens in Tampa features a combination of thrilling rides, exotic animals, and live entertainment; Tampas Lowry Park Zoo has over 1000 animals on 56 acres of natural outdoor habitats; and also in Tampa is the Adventure Island Aquapark, featuring all the usual fun water-slides and pools.
For yearning paleontologists, Dinosaur World is a must, around 70km from St Pete's Beach this 20-acre outdoor dinosaur museum is ideal for children, with over 200 life size dinosaurs, a fossil dig and interactive shows. While the young master builders will not want to miss the experience of Legoland (approx 100 km away) and Legoland Waterpark; and for the pleasure seekers, the attractions of Orlando are just under 2 hours drive away.
