Not much around St Paul's Bay but not too far from the busier parts of the island. Wasn't many pubs about but we didn't mind the quietness.

St Pauls Bay is very picturesque and Porto Azzurro Aparthotel sits right at the end. There are a couple of restaurants near by the hotel and a local cafe that offers free WiFi. Also nearby are a few hotels all of which are open to non residents and are very friendly. Buggiba is where all the busy tourist shops, bustling bars and restaurant are located. There is a small man made sandy beach area. Well worth a look is the aquarium and the classic car museum both easy strolling distance from the bus station, Qwara also has many bars, restaurants, shops, cafes etc and is an easy stroll from Buggiba's main area. Both Buggiba and Qwara are clean, tidy and friendly areas. Very relaxing place.

It's a nice town for lazy holidays. Some shops and restaurants (close to Bugibba as well) but you need to take a bus (or walk for a bit) to get to a beach. Great ice cream spot in Bugibba - Sotto Zero with dairy-free and no sugar options.

We were in the Xemxija part of St Pauls Bay, quite away from the bay itself. The place where we stayed just had a minimal amount of places to eat and drink and no entertainment at all. We expected it to be quiet because of the time of year, but the entertainment was zilch, the hotel prices for drinks were astronomical so we ventured down the hill to the little local bar around the corner and the hotels pool bar was only open from 12 until 4 in the afternoon and this also was very pricey, but you were not allowed to take your own food and drink into the pool area. We caught the local bus to other areas as it was too far to walk as 1 of our party suffered with breathlessness. Overall we had a lovely time with venturing out but so disappointed that we did not realise it is in the Xemxija part of St Pauls Bay.

St Pauls Bay is lovely. Think it's more for the older people even though I am only late 30s it was nice and peaceful and there was no stag or hen parties, was full of older people. There is no sandy beach in St Pauls Bay. The buses are cheap as chips, went to the city for 1 euro 50 and plenty of site seeing, local and the blue lagoon boat trip. Not over expensive, we paid round 2 euro 50 a pint. If you like walking it's nice to walk on the sea front, many shops and bars and nice views. St Pauls Bay is in a good location, you can go to St Julians and other places cheap and quickly. The transfer from the airport was about 30 minutes.

Depending on what is defined as St. Pauls Bay, overall I would say there was plenty to do there. I would say that Bugibba was where most of the activity was and there was a good variety of shops, bars and restaurants. There is an Aquarium nearby which was worth a visit and there is a casino in Bugibba but not able to comment as I didn't visit the facility.

Xemxija is across the harbour to St Pauls Bay, the harbour is quiet and a beautiful area. Great for reading a book, sitting watching the little boats come in and out. Part of the bay is roped off for swimming and a tiny shingle/sand beach (only a few yards). Porto Del Sol restaurant is worth a visit and a few little cafes/restaurants around. Weekly bus pass was all of 6 euros 50 cents and most buses are now air conditioned, if you can get a seat. Malta sightseeing bus goes around the Island too, if you have children would possibly need a hotel with a pool.

It is a quiet resort but has easy access to other sites, as local buses are easily available and very cheap indeed. You can get a 7 day ticket for 6.50 euro, very easy to travel around the whole island, although sometimes you may have to wait for a half full bus.

Beaches

St Paul's Bay lies along the southern coast of Xemxija Bay and has a small beach at its innermost point. The remainder of the coastline is rocky but with many large flat rocks where you can lay and soak up the Maltese sun or access the clear blue Mediterranean waters for snorkeling and swimming.

For sandy beaches and a wider choice of watersports, (such as jet skis, banana rides and windsurfing) head further up the coast to Mellieha Bay (6km) or, across the island to Golden Bay (4.5km). For a smaller and quieter sandy beach try Riviera Bay (5km) or Gnejna Bay (7.5km) on the west coast or, on the north coast, the secluded sands of Paradise Bay and Arnier Bay (10km).

Things to Do

Diving is very popular in Malta and there are diving centres in and around St Paul's Bay offering equipment hire, dive trips and diving courses. There is also an Aquatic Club along the promenade with a large swimming pool, a children's pool, a diving centre and various activities.

Next to the Aquatic Club stands St Paul's Tower, which is one of the remaining five Wignacourt Towers still standing. This small 17th century watchtower houses visitor information and offers great views across the bay and beyond.

Step back in time and browse the Classic Car Museum in Qawra or watch your kids splash around at the Bugibba Water Park - both of which are in walking distance of St Pauls Bay. Just outside the resort, near Salina Bay, BirdPark Malta has over 200 birds and animals to see.

Out and About

St Paul's Bay is the old part of town and has a number of friendly bars and pavement cafes, a harbour filled with little fishing boats and some nice restaurants. If you continue past the beach you will come to the even quieter resort of Xemxija, on the north coast of Xemxija Bay.

In the opposite direction, St Paul's Bay rolls seamlessly into Bugibba, which in turn, merges into Qawra. Bugibba Square is popular in the evenings and is surrounded by lively bars and restaurants or, a little further round the promenade, you can try your hand at the Oracle Casino.

Nearby Attractions

St Paul's Bay is very well served by the local bus network providing you with easy access to the capital city of Valletta, inland ancient towns, coastal resorts and the sandy beaches at the north of the island. Excursions are readily available, on land or sea including boat trips to the islands of Gozo and Comino; harbour cruises and sightseeing tours of Valletta.

Just a short bus ride away, family days out include the Splash & Fun Water Park and Malta Marine Park (which are next door to each other); Popeye's Village and the Malta Falconry Centre.
