Skiathos

Skiathos Hotels

Skiathos is very laid back and is known for it's beautiful beaches and crystal clear waters. That's why it's one of Greece's most popular islands. Skiathos might not be the biggest of islands but it is certainly jam packed with things to do from beautiful beaches to a wander round the harbour or a visit to some chic boutiques.

All in all, Skiathos is the perfect blend of upbeat towns and sleepy villages

How Hot?

Skiathos enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate, with hot and dry summers which begin to rise in May and last through to October.

The hottest months are July and August with average highs of 87-89ºF (31-32ºC), while May and June see average highs of 75-84ºF (24-29ºC), and September to October is 71-80ºF (22-27ºC).

Out and About

Despite being the smallest of the Sporades group of islands, there is no shortage of things to see and do in the beautiful Skiathos and with over 50 beautiful beaches, you are bound to find the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the sun.

Among the list of things to see and do is the fortified medieval village of Kastro, the rocks at Meteora Heights and the Monastery of Evangelistria. The capital, Skiathos Town is also a great day out with it's charming old town and cosmopolitan bar scene. A must see in Skiathos Town is the Bourtzi, an open air theatre which hosts performances in the summer months.

There is a mix of beautiful, sandy beaches and quiet, secluded coves, both of which are great for family days out. Most of the beaches offer a variety of watersports such as pedalos, banana boat rides, windsurfing, water skiing and parasailing so there will never be a dull moment. The island also provides great conditions for scuba diving and with a number of dive schools it is perfect for every level.

It's well worth exploring this beautiful island on foot, horseback or even bike as there are so many footpaths and ancient trails leading to hidden churches and monasteries, tiny villages and unspoilt beaches that are best explored up close. Take it at your own pace or join in with one of the organised tours, it is entirely up to you.

Skiathos is well known for its nightlife, offering a variety of clubs, bars and restaurants to suit every everyone. Although Skiathos is great for watersports, it also offers other activities such as football, tennis, volleyball and basketball.

Out for Lunch!

Skiathos has a wide choice of eateries throughout the island. Dine in beach bars, luxury restaurants and snack bars. Traditional tavernas are found all over the resort, but mainly in the residential areas where you can experience traditional local cuisine.

A majority of eateries can be found in Skiathos Town. There is a very popular restaurant in Skiathos Town known as The Windmill restaurant. This is located on a hillside and has stunning views over Skiathos Town and the harbour, a must even if just for the view.

Some of the local produce includes freshly caught fish, olives, figs and honey. A great way to sample the traditional food is by having a meze, a variety of starters and appetizers set in the middle of the table for all to enjoy. If you are on a self catering holiday there are plenty of supermarkets on the island to get all your everyday essentials.
