Very small place, not really a resort area but this adds to the charm.

Very quiet, with not much happening apart from a few quiet bars and restaurants (all fairly cheap and reasonable food). The only other attraction that we could find was a set of caves which we did not bother to visit. I could see nothing that would entertain a family, so it's lucky mine was not with me. As a stopping centre to visit other parts of the island it was good, if you had a car to get around, as it was away from Funchal (plagued with cruise liners and subsequently busy and expensive).

No commercialism, really suited us. Unfortunately not much sun on north side of island.

Not much about locally apart from a few village shops, and very infrequent bus services to other locations. Very hilly for walking.
