Nice place, good food, but cocktails like water - no taste at all. Beds very uncomfortable. Reception girls need to improve, often couldn't provide the information we asked for.

My family (two adults 42, 36 and three children 12, 9, 4) arrived at the hotel on the 1st August to a friendly reception. Was given a site plan of the hotel to find our room and wrist bands placed on us, we were on the 2nd floor of block one which had a stunning view straight onto the sea. We stayed in a spacious one bedroom suite (although we were thought we had booked a 2 bed). The room had a large corner sofa bed and a single bed in the main area, large tv (10E refundable for the remote) only English channels was news and Disney although Disney switched from Spanish to English throughout the day. Rooms were cleaned 5 days a week along with the towels, did have to speak to the cleaners several times to request more towels as they started giving us fewer and fewer (x3 towels for 5 people is not enough). I was unable to totally unpack and had to leave some clothes in the cases as 1 wardrobe for 5 people was not enough, no other space to put them at all, we did question this with reception but was told that that is all we could have. This was not a problem in other rooms though as I spoke to several people who had plenty of storage in their rooms. A safe and fridge was in the room however this is not the case for all rooms as no one else we spoke to had the fridge. We had to go down to reserve sun loungers around 8am otherwise we may have struggled, sun loungers on the beach must have been very early risers. We have done all inclusive for many many years as we are not fussy eaters and kids are always tend to be catered for - breakfast was your typical everything eggs, bacon etc, snack by the pool (never went into the restaurant at this time of day) was cheese and ham toasties, garlic bread, hotdogs, burgers, chips, pizza, salad fruit, cold meats and ice cream. Unfortunately at this hotel there is no kids evening meal i.e. nuggets, fish fingers etc, was mainly fish, meats etc all very nice but quantity was low and not much choice, queues to wait for refills could get quite large. Lager on self service pump was surprisingly very nice, also self service was wine, soft drinks, water, ice, hot drinks, any other drinks would need to be requested from behind the bar. Staff were friendly, the entertainment team consisted of 3, Estephi, Marvin and Abraham. By far Abraham was the most interactive with the guests, I'm guessing the team was on a limited budget as games consisted of how far you could throw an ice cube from your mouth, catch a ball in a tennis tube, other games that took place were football, water polo, fishing, darts, zumba, volley ball and the mini club. I did take my youngest to the mini club but stayed with him thoughout, my son was never approached by the mini club leader to join in anything (maybe because the majority of people are German and Spanish). Tennis courts can be booked at reception after handing over 20 Euro which will be fully refunded when returning the bats and balls. We stayed for 2 weeks and would recommend the African Footprints entertainment night, this was very good, the nights which consisted of the entertainment teams were cheesy but if you like that kind of thing I guess its fine, some shows I enjoyed some were unbearable. At 8:30pm every night except Saturday's which is the entertainment staffs day off was the mini disco, my youngest one did seem to enjoy this. The hotel is very isolated, the nearest shop (a supermarket) is about a 10 minutes walk away, there is one or two restaurants up there too but I couldn't comment as we didn't eat outside of the hotel. Some friends did walk into Playa Blanca which took over 1hr 30mins. The "beach" the hotel is on is extremely rocky, wet rocks are extremely slippy, we attempted to get into the sea water once but gave it up as a bad joke as it wasn't worth the risk to our lives (I am not exaggerating on this one - it is really dangerously bad, I lost count of the number of people that cut their foot attempting to get into the sea!). We asked reception to book us a taxi to Playa Blanca, which was done immediately, the taxi ride cost 5 Euro, the beach there is lovely and lots of shops to visit. One day we got a taxi to Playa Blanca bus station then a bus to Purto Del Carmen, for the 5 of us on the bus it was just over 10 Euro. Make sure you know the bus times coming back though as after waiting over 45 mins we decided to get a taxi back to the hotel which cost 35 Euro. We have visited Lanzarote 3 times before so was more than prepared for the breeze (or so we thought!), laying by the pool you could often witness lilo's and armbands flying over the barrier aiming for the sea, it really is bad for wind in this location, I gave up reading the newspaper as it was just too hard. The Pools - one small pool by the mini club does have a few tiles missing from the bottom so unless you want your little ones feet cut - avoid. On seeing the large pool for the first time I was very disappointed as the video I saw before booking it the pool appeared so much bigger, but it is still a nice sized pool and is monitored closely by staff. The other bar opens at 5pm. Lots of toy machines requiring 1 Euro for a small toy are in both bars, a pool table and table tennis in each bar. The bar that opens at 5pm also has a football table and air hockey table, inside there is a few card tables. Reception will gladly refund any money that the equipment have taken should they not work (this happened to us 3 times). I did encounter many rude people at this hotel especially in the food queues, this was mostly from the non-British guests, children were ignored and even pushed out of the queue, biting my tongue was often done. Wifi is not free at this hotel and I'm sure I heard someone say it costs 35 Euro, I chose not to take them up on this offer and didn't use the computers in reception either. Also this is the first hotel I've stayed in that didn't have a balcony light, so no cards on a night out on the balcony for this family. This hotel would be ideal for someone that is happy to constantly lay on the sun lounger all day as there is nowhere else to go. Recommendations for the hotel would be to invest in more staff and provide more activities during the day. We did enjoy our stay at the Royal Monica Playa Blanca Hotel, but we will not be back

Very friendly staff, food ok. Beer, wine etc not supervised so for someone who likes to drink it's heaven. Lack of sun loungers. From 11 days we got sun lounges only twice. Very good entertainment team, but the hotel is far from the resort centre so not much to do. Rooms basic but clean, no fridge or coffee making facilities. I personally wouldn't go back to the same resort because it was too quiet for me but other than that the hotel is great and staff are brilliant.

Excellently clean generously sized rooms, courteous staff. Food was very good and a fair choice at every meal. The only very minor downside was the lack of free WiFi, but at 25 euro for 7 days it amounts to about 3.5 euro per day which, when you're all inclusive, isn't anything at all.
