Things that we learnt about Lake Garda and Italy:<br /> Lake Garda is full of Germans (only a 4 hour drive for them from Germany). They have a huge fireworks display at the end of August each year. Food is very reasonably priced. We got bread sticks, tomatoes with bruschetta, pizza and lasagne, drinks, after dinner mints and a shot of limoncello for less than £10 each at one restaurant. Any food ordered, no matter what it is or how busy the restaurant is, arrives within 10 minutes. They are very bike friendly with cycle paths everywhere. They are very dog friendly with most buildings allowing dogs to go into the premises. Public toilets are scarce and usually cost over £1.00 each. They have lots of Co-op's, but they are not the same company as our Co-op's. Every car politely stops at the many zebra crossings, no matter how busy the traffic is. Receipts are given for absolutely everything, no matter how small the item is. They love English music, but only about 20% of the Italian's that we met knew how to speak English and understood what the songs were about. Apple, which seems to be a Lake Garda thing, is offered on pretty much every type of food they have. Due to the high amount of Germans on holiday you get to try lots of different types of German food and drink too, plus practice your Deutsch. Lake Garda is more beautiful than anyone could have ever described.

Plenty of shops and restaurants. Prices reasonable but tipping in some bars, restaurants is expected, change wasn't always given. Good choice of places to visit. Good transport network buses, ferry and walking routes. Plenty of bike and car hire outlets but didn't use these facilities. Can be an active holiday or restful holiday. Beautiful scenery and architecture well worth a visit. And only 2 hours rain in one week!

Riva del Garda is awesome. Lots of beautiful scenery. I explored the area by foot and by taking trips on the ferries to other parts of Lake Garda. Some things are a little pricey, but not if you shop around. The ice cream is yummy. I will definitely be going back to Riva del Garda.

The Beach
There are three beaches in Riva, found to the east of the harbour;
Sabbioni Beach is made of pebbles with grass areas and facilities include a bar, showers, canoe hire, a floating platform, basketball court and a playground with trampolines and sand pits.
Pini Beach is pebbly with a large grass area, a bar, showers, a small playground with sand pit and a floating platform. It also has a dedicated area for windsurfers.
Miralago Beach is a small pebbly beach with an offshore platform.
Things To Do
Lake Garda is ideal for enjoying land and water sports; with plenty of options available all around the lake, where there are many sailing schools, dives centres and tennis courts to be found. Waterskiing and jet-skis are only available in the south area of the lake where it’s wider and calmer and better suited for these activities.
The southern end of Lake Garda is home to a number of challenging golf courses, most of which are within easy reach of the holiday resorts.
Rock climbing is a popular activity at the more mountainous north end of the lake in particular the town of Arco, with surrounding 2000 metre high mountains and over 2000 climbing routes its ideal for the advanced climbers, while training walls offer a great place to learn.
Windsurfing is another activity more popular at the north end of the lake, due to the reliable winds. The town of Torbole has played host to many major championships and cater very much for surfers.
Out and About
Whilst driving around Lake Garda is possible, narrow windy roads and limited parking spaces mean it’s not the easiest, the simplest option is across the water by boat. There are a number of choices available; car ferry, the slowest option; hydrofoil, the quickest; motorised catamaran; and paddle steamer, though limited towns are covered, the paddle steamer is an ideal choice for a more leisurely journey.
The towns and villages around the lake offer an abundance of cafes, restaurants and ice-cream parlours; good shopping opportunities too, where the larger the town the more shops and greater variety you’ll find. Many of the towns around the lake have a weekly market, and well worth a browse for the wide selection available.
Nearby Attractions
Gardaland theme park at the southern end of the lake, just outside the town of Peschiera, is a popular place for families, with lots to do there’s thrilling rides, fun water rides, play areas, shows, and lots of eateries.
Canevaworld Resort found just a little further north up the road from Gardaland, consists of two theme parks; Aqua Paradise Park a water-park with plenty of water-rides and slides, beaches and pools and, Movieland Studios a theme park with rides and shows; as well as a Medieval Times Restaurant and Show.
The city of Verona is close enough for a day-trip from Lake Garda, it’s a great city to wander around by foot and discover its many historical buildings such as the ancient Roman amphitheatre and Juliet’s balcony.
