Beaches

The black sand beach at Puerto Naos is the most popular on the island and can become quite busy in the summer. The beach is long and wide and the palm trees on the sands provide some welcome shade. The beach is serviced with toilets and showers and there are terrace cafes, restaurants shops and bars along the beach promenade.

A little north (1km) of Puerto Naos, at the beach of Playa Nueva, the waters are better for windsurfing. Or, if you seek calmer waters and a bit of peace and quiet, then head south (3km) to the beach of Charco Verde.

Things to Do

Go diving. There are diving centres at Puerto Naos offering PADI certified courses and dive trips. There are a dozen dive sites on the west coast, with more choices dotted around the south and east coasts. Due to the volcanic activity surrounding the island the seascape has a wealth of cliffs and canyons, lava arches and caves to discover.

If you would prefer to stay above water, you can go on boat trips and whale watching trips. Paragliding is also particularly popular here and, being surrounded by National Parks, banana plantations, volcanos and little villages; there are no end of walks and hiking trails, miradors and viewing points to enjoy.

Out and About

Whilst popular, Puerto Naos is still a small town grown from a fishing village. Nevertheless it has a good choice of bars and restaurants behind the beach, everyday shops for groceries, a few tourist shops, a cyber cafe and games arcade for children.

Nearby Attractions

A little inland, you will find the village of Las Manchas. The focal point of the village has to be the pretty Plaza La Glorieta which is surrounded by stone walling and beautifully paved with colourful mosaics of the islands emblematic giant lizards and flowers. Just above the square you can visit the Museum of Wine.

Visitor attractions nearby include the Finca Tropical Botanic Garden and the Paraiso de las Aves Bird Park.

The beach and marina at Tazacorte is approx 15 minutes drive north, taking you past the Volcanoes of Aridane. There are walks from Tazacorte to the characterful little town of Los Llanos or you could make your way into the Caldera de Taburiente National Park.
