Beaches

There are many beautiful white sand beaches around the island of Praslin, enhanced with natural scenery of lush tropical greenery and dramatic granite boulders. The beautiful beach of Anse Lazio boasts calm, shallow waters which are ideal for swimming and snorkelling. Indeed, most of the beaches shelve gently into calm swimming waters which are crystal clear for snorkelling. One of the most popular beaches, Grand Anse, can occasionally be blighted by drifting seaweed in the bay, but there are many alternative beaches in easy reach.

Watersports, fishing and boat hire can be found at the main beaches of Cote d'Or (including Anse Gouvernement and Anse Volbert) on the north coast and Grand Anse on the south coast. Surfing is possible at Anse Kerlan and Petite Anse Kerlan on the west coast.

Things to Do

The most famous attraction on the island of Praslin is the Vallee de Mai, a beautiful forest of endemic palms, plants and tropical birds. The nature reserve is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and legend has it that is was the Garden of Eden. You can walk along the guided trails under the shade of the huge trees, including the famous Coco de Mer and try to sight the famous and rare Black Parrot.

Take a trip to Curieuse Island which lies just off of the north-east coast of Praslin where you can observe and interact with the giant tortoises, walk through the mangroves, sunbathe and swim from the lovely beach.

Snorkelling, fishing, swimming, relaxing and sunbathing are high on the list of activities to do in Praslin. There are plenty of opportunities for taxi boats and boat hire if you wish to discover hidden beaches or cruise around the island.

Out and About

In addition to Curieuse Island, there are a number of islands nearby which you could visit including the popular holiday islands of Mahe and La Digue; the exclusive resort island of Felicite; the small private island of Chauve Souris and the islet of St Pierre in the Cote d'or Bay; the nature reserves of Cousin and Cousine and the picturesque sister islands of Petite and Grande Soeur.

The 18 hole golf course at Lemuria Golf Resort is open to non-guests and has the benefit of a Pro Shop with club hire and golf lessons available.

The small but informative Praslin Museum offers the opportunity to learn of the culture and traditions of the island and it is located near the Cote d'Or beach.
