Very quiet resort but beautiful. OK for a short stay but if you are looking for a resort with things going on then this isn't the one to go to.

Porto Colombian is a lovely resort with a pretty natural harbour, the cove beach is lovely. There are enough bars and restaurants but I do find that all inclusive hotels are killing off resorts like this as we found a lot of bars and restaurants, quite empty except for the very expensive one on the harbour. It's such a shame as it is a lovely resort.

If you want a nice quiet place to chill out and relax this is the place for you. The beach is beautiful, there is a lifeguard and first aider on duty during the day. You have to pay for sun beds but it's worth 10 euros for the whole day. There's also pedalo's for hire and a glass bottomed boat if you fancy being more adventurous. There's a beach bar and a few shops and restaurants within a few minutes walking distance of your sun bed.

Very quiet resort not much nightlife, ideal for couples not requiring discos. Plenty of Spanish cafes, bars. Porto Colom is a Spanish fishing resort with a gorgeous harbour and splendid walks around the harbour.

The beach

Just 500-metres from the harbour area of Porto Colom is the main beach Cala Marcal, an inlet of fine sand which gently slopes into clear calm water. There are plenty of facilities at hand, sun-beds and parasols for hire, a small playground for children and pedal boats. Refreshments are available at the beach bar, as well as several restaurants close by.

On the opposite side of the bay to the harbour there are a further two beaches S'Arenal Grand and S'Arenal Petit. Due to their location away from the resort hotels generally sees these beaches frequented by locals. There are two beach bars adjacent to the beaches.

Further south of the resort on the way to Cala d'Or is the Cala Sa Nau beach, a small unspoilt cove just 45-metres long and 70-metres wide with fine white sand and crystal clear water. Surrounded by low cliffs and pines this remote beach is well facilitated with sun-loungers and parasols available to hire, and a beach hut for refreshments.

Things to do

The resort's main historical attraction is the prehistoric burial site (navetas), as one of the best preserved on the island it's also one of the oldest. Other sights in the area include the Sanctuary of Sant Salvador found on top of the mountain known as Saint Salvador, and the Santueri Castle which sits on top of a rocky outcrop with walls which date from the 14th century.

There are also plenty of watersports on offer in Porto Colom, from the fun types such as the banana and doughnut rides, to the more skilled types such as water-skiing, sailing and windsurfing. There are several diving schools in the resort and plenty of places to hire equipment.

Out and about

There are plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars in Porto Colom, a number of which can be found around the harbour offering everything from traditional Mallorcan dishes to fine cuisine. Evenings are a laid-back affair here, though there are a couple of lively late night bars and discos.

There is not a wide selection of shops in Porto Colom except for everyday holiday essentials and souvenir shops; a small market takes place here twice a week (Tuesdays and Saturdays), a greater choice and a larger weekly market (Sundays) can be found at nearby Felanitx.

A small resort easily accessible by foot; and for those who enjoy getting out and about there is a regular bus service which runs inland to the town of Felanitx, and a further service all the way to the islands capital of Palma. Water-taxis provide an alternative and pleasant mode of transport and can take you to Cala d'Or and Cala Figuera.

Nearby attractions

There are a number of glass bottomed boat trips to take along the east coast, visiting remote beaches and other resorts such as Porto Cristo and Sa Coma. Land excursions include trips to the town of Manacor, famed for its artificial pearls; or the town of Felanitx, worth visiting on a Sunday morning just to experience the market which is widely recognised as being one of the best on the island.

The Exotic Parque Los Pajaros is found just outside the resort, it features a children's zoo, flamingos and a garden with a variety of cactus. Alternatively the Tropical Park Jumaica, situated on the road from Porto Cristo to Porto Colom, is a lush tropical garden with rare plants and free flying exotic birds.

For golfers the nearest golf course is Vall d'Or just a 10 minute drive away. The golf club also has a pool, driving range, paddle courts, a restaurant and sun terrace.

Just 10 km away in Porto Cristo are the popular Caves of Drach, the caves feature many caverns with beautifully formed stalactites and stalagmites, as well as a large subterranean lake where classical music recitals are performed daily.
