Playa de la Arena

Playa de la Arena has a wide black sandy beach and enough bars and restaurants for a relaxing beach holiday. The area is quite hilly and nightlife is low key but it has great views across to La Gomera, plenty of sunshine and very little rain.

The resort was in a good place to go sight seeing, Mount Teide and the Masca Valley. There is a beach on the resort and a life guard on the beach, very good bus service, servicing all the island.

The usual amenities for a small resort. Black sand beach which for us was an acquired taste. Nice restaurants and not too expensive. Pleasant walkways for relaxing strolls in the sun. Other resorts quite close and well serviced by local transport.

Five minute walk to beach, shops and restaurants etc. Lovely coast line. We walked to Los Gigantes one day - took about 40 minutes stroll, but well worth it. In the opposite direction a supermarket two minutes away - I like sparkling wine and as it wasn't included in all inclusive we purchased our own.

Lots of pubs, bars, beach and holiday shops. Beach good, but red flag flying on most days in our month there. Plenty of busses through Playa de la Arena to get to other places on the island. Our hotel location was good as it was at the quieter end of the resort. We didn't want all the bars, restaurants, etc (we were all inclusive).

Playa de la Arena has a stunning prom. Clean with a small selection of shops and restaurants. The beach is amazing with life guards, sunbeds to hire and clean black sand.

Lots of little shops and restaurants within walking distance. I would recommend Bobby's Indian restaurant just at Arena beach. This part is quiet so no water or theme parks local but they're not far. We had a hire car so access to the whole island!

Hotel close to shops, bars and restaurants. Hilly in places so can be hard work walking around but the main areas mainly flat. Los Gigantes nearby with a harbour to go out on boat trips, fishing or whale and dolphin watching.

Small resort. Modern. A couple of supermarkets and gift shops. If you want Spanish tradition you will not find it here. Beach approx 5 minute walk from Bahia Flamingo. Sandy. Rocks in sea. Unable to swim in January due to very strong under currents although life guard assured me it is ok in the summer months. A small amount of restaurants with very similar menus. Found a lovely traditional Spanish cafe/restaurant called Sunflower with good choice and prices. It is located left out of the hotel, and down the second right turning. Well worth a visit.

Nothing wrong with the resort apart from building work going on in the main bar and conference area for a new adult only club. Seems strange with so many kids very close by.

Beautiful resort. Pretty and quiet (although rather hilly - not really suitable for those in a wheelchair or with a heart condition etc). The hotel sits opposite the beach (approx 10 mins walk). Very clean beach (with the unusual yet absolutely spotless volcanic black sand), with tap/cleaning facilities to wash all the sand off! -and toilets. A few shops and bars down its main street, but a lovely quaint resort in a much quieter area than the hustle and bustle of Las Americas etc. Very friendly locals and a lovely sleepy laid back atmosphere. 10 mins by taxi to Los Gigantes (well worth going on a boat trip to see the whales and dolphins-highly recommended) and 45 mins approx to the Tenerife South Airport.

The beach is nice. Ok black sand but kids like it. Rather hilly, not good for the less mobile people, otherwise on the whole it is good.

Beaches

The beach at Playa de la Arena is set back between two rocky headlands and has wide natural black sand backed by palm trees. The water shelves quite steeply and the waters are not always suitable for bathing but the beach does has a lifeguard monitoring the currents.

Things to Do

Boat trips run from the harbour in Los Gigantes, perhaps the most popular being the dolphin and whale watching trips but you can also take cruises which get you the best view of the magnificent cliffs as well as fishing trips and diving trips.

If the sea is a little rough and you fancy a swim, make for the Lido in Los Gigantes where you can relax on the sun terraces and dip in and out of the lagoon style swimming pool. If you have children, the Oasis Club might be the better choice.

Out and About

Above the beach, the beach front promenade is lined with beach shops, pavement cafes, bars and restaurants. You can follow this road into Varadero to the south or, if you walk in the opposite direction you will find yourself in the narrow streets of Puerto de Santiago and from there you can continue your walk into Los Gigantes.

There are a few traditional tapas bars but menus and entertainment tend to be lean more towards Chinese, Indian, English breakfast, Irish bars and sports bars.

Nearby Attractions

Explore mountain villages as Chio and Guia de Isora, the old and the new quarters of Adeje, or the tiny historic hamlets of Chirche and Aripe high in the Teide National Park; all of which are within 20 to 30 minutes drive.

The beaches, nightlife, designer shops and family attractions such as water parks and wildlife parks in the southern resorts of Costa Adeje and Playa de las America are all with 30 minutes drive.
