Beaches

The beach runs the entire length of Mojacar and beyond for a total distance of approx 17km. Beach activities and watersports are available such as banana boat rides, sailing, fishing and boat trips, scuba diving and snorkelling.

The central beaches can become quite busy in the summer season and are particularly family friendly. At regular intervals there are children's play areas, multi-sports courts and beach bars right on the sands of the beach. At the top end of the resort, near the Marina de la Torre golf course, the beaches are good for windsurfing and kitesurfing and, near the Parque Commercial the beaches are less developed.

Things to Do

Explore the winding streets of the Mojacar Pueblo, its charming cobbled alleys and pretty plazas. Stop for a coffee at the Mirador de Plaza for far reaching views across the valley or make your way to the highest point, the Mirador del Castillo, for views over the coast. Historic attractions in the village include La Fuente Mora, a spring water fountain dating back to Roman times; the 14th century Church of Santa Maria and the 15th century old city gate.

There are two 18 golf courses in the resort at Playa Macenas and Marina de la Torre as well as a 9 hole course at Cortijo Grande. The nearest water park is Parque Aquatico at Vera Playa (9km), which is open from May to September.

Out and About

In the beach resort of Mojacar Playa there are shops and restaurants at the Parque Commercial, as well as a taxi rank and the bus station. Buses run regularly along the beach and up to the village. There is no promenade as such but, across the road from the beach, there are pleasant lawns and palm trees, low-rise apartment complexes, shops and restaurants. There is a handful of nightclubs and nightlife is more vibrant in the summer months.

In the village of Mojacar Pueblo you will find some individual shops and boutiques for local crafts and clothing. For local produce, the market is held on Wednesdays. Nightlife is low key but there are plenty of restaurants around the plazas and tucked away in the hilly little streets, many with terraces offering fabulous views.

Nearby Attractions

The harbour town of Garrucha (7km north) is a traditional working fishing village with a great sandy beach. If you are around in the afternoon when the fishermen return with their catch, you can buy fresh fish or the famous red prawns, from the quay. The palm-lined promenade runs for approx 2km and market day is Friday mornings. Also near Garrucha are the caves of Almanzora.
