Massachusetts Hotels

Every region of Massachusetts has it's own charm and offers it's own unique adventures so whether you are interested in the culture and energy of greater Boston or the natural beauty of the Berkshires, there is something for everyone in Massachusetts.

The North of Boston area offers 30 miles of rocky coastline and is a haven for beach lovers but also provides many cultural activities including many museums dedicated to the areas seafaring heritage. Cape Cod is popular with families as there are many outdoor activities and fun attractions for all the family.

All in all Massachusetts offers a great range of activities and attractions for all to enjoy.

How Hot?

Some of the popular times to visit the state include the summer months July and August where the Cape Cod beaches are swarming with people.

The 4th of July sees a major event in Boston where many streets are closed owing to the large crowds and the autumn months are popular for leaf peeping, due to the bright and colourful foliage.

Between November and February many of the smaller resorts close for the winter months, such as Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard.

Out and About

Situated just north of Washington DC, the dynamic and diverse state of Massachusetts offers cosmopolitan cities, wide-open spaces, beautiful sandy beaches, rolling hills, charming islands and quaint, historic villages. The state is particularly popular with outdoor enthusiasts and offers an abundance of outdoor activities, from skiing to hiking. The climate is very similar to the UK but the seasons are more defined so think carefully about the activities you may want to participate in to ensure you go at the most appropriate time.

For an amazing day out why not try a little whale watching. The coast of Massachusetts offers some of the best whale watching opportunities worldwide and with such a great diversity of species and abundance of whales, it is a fantastic sight.

The state capital, Boston offers a great many sights, many of which are historical and it is worth seeing a few at least. Boston is also great for shopping and there are many great restaurants too. Something a lot of people have on their to do list is a visit to Fenway Park, the home of the Red Soxs. Some people are lucky enough to get tickets for a game but if not, you are still able to take a tour of the stadium.

Cape Cod is one of New England's premier beach destinations but there is much more to do besides lazing around on the beach. As well as many museums and beautiful gardens to explore there are many family based attractions here too, such as Bass River Sports World which offers miniature golf, electric go karts, soccer and baseball cages, driving, range, arcade and skate park. There is also an aquarium here, small but the kids will just love it.

Marthas Vineyard is another must see place and perhaps best explored on bike, if you can bear to tear yourself away from one of the many beautiful beaches. Marthas Vineyard is a sought-after haven for many celebrities, famous artists and political figures and when you see how beautiful it is, you will understand why.

Out for Lunch!

The menus in Massachusetts reflect their location beside the ocean, with many types of seafood offered, including cod, lobster, clams, oysters and much more.

The state also has several home grown dishes and specialities these include cranberries - grown in wet areas called bogs in Cape Cod, the Boston baked bean - a dish of dried beans made with molasses and salt pork or bacon; and the New England clam chowder - a thick and creamy soup,

For those with a sweet tooth the official dessert of Massachusetts is the Boston cream pie, this delicious pudding and cake combination has two layers of sponge filled with vanilla flavoured custard or crème patisserie and topped with a chocolate glaze. Also the chocolate chip cookie was developed here, all be it accidentally by the owner of the Toll House Inn, in Whitman, Massachusetts back in the 1930's.
