Los Gigantes Hotels Tenerife, Canary Islands

Located on the south west coast of Tenerife, Los Gigantes enjoys plenty of year round sunshine. It is best known for the tall sheer cliff face of the Teno Mountains, which provide shelter from the trade winds and can be seen from just about everywhere in the resort.

Lovely place, great places to eat. The 60s bar is great for a relaxing drink or quiz and on some nights karaoke. Eddie and Hollies are fab hosts along with Dee who runs the bar.

Pretty little village with lovely views. The lack of decent (non English) restaurants let it down.

Total chill out, good restaurants and bar though limited as the town is very small, most places close at 12 so early to bed. Very hilly town so good mobility helps. Lovely harbour with various trips available and the scenery is spectacular . Very enjoyable place.

Good selection of bars, shops and restaurants - most tastes catered for. Stunning walks and views. Excellent local bus services; can be very busy at times (worth buying a Bono card for cheaper fares). Area is very hilly so not ideal for all.

Lovely, quiet resort with adequate bars and restaurants. Food and drinks were excellent value. Not many shops to browse, but that was excellent for me because it meant the wife couldn't drag me around them all. Some steep hills, especially up to the Royal Sun Resort Hotel which may be a problem for some, but taxi was less than £3 from bottom of resort to hotel.

Some very good well-priced restaurants, good range of supermarkets and so on, but a bit tired, and too anglicised for us. Noisy entertainment (of varying quality) - though this did not go on late into the night near El Sombrero and was generally quite contained to the town centre.

Compared to other resorts it has had its day and is becoming reliant on the cliffs and marina. It needs an injection of new money and new people.

Los Gigantes is a quiet place to stay. We did see a lot of English people there. Many boat trips on offer and jet skiing. Not a place for young people as there is not much there for them to do. There are some pubs, restaurants and shops. The beach is not very good could do with improving.

We have been coming too Los Gigantes for years. It is the only place that we visit regularly and is like home from home. It's small, it's quiet and we love the Oasis for relaxing in the sun. Bars and restaurants are good, we just feel comfortable there.

We found that the part of Los Gigantes where we were located suited our needs without having to worry about any raucous behaviour that can occur in holiday resorts. We found several restaurants within the town that provided quality food at very reasonable prices.

We have been coming here to see in the new year for a few years now and know exactly what to expect. It is very quiet compared to your usual haunts nearer to the airport, which personally I would not thank you for. You will discover a few bars here (mainly English/Irish) but this small resort predominately consists of restaurants, these vary from the cheap and cheerful to a more modest cost. They do however cover all tastes, Canarian, Italian, Chinese, Indian and German.

Los Gigantes has a very small volcano sand beach and a lovely harbour at which you can hire jet skis and take pleasure boats trips to watch whales and dolphins up the coast.

Bars can be very loud on the night time, I can never quite understand that either (probably because we are the wrong side of 50 I suppose) but when you consider that the average age of the clientele visiting here are nearer to our age I am not sure it just spoils the centre a touch. This is only a slight negative as there are plenty of places to frequent away from the centre, two nearby resorts (walking distance). Puerto Santiago and Playa Arena offer a selection a bars and restaurants
Le Meson is a quality eatery if you have deep pockets.

Not wanting to appear too stuffy, you can see most of the football/rugby in the bars day and night time. Again, not wishing to appear anti British there is a lovely little sandwich bar on the top corner of town run by a British couple and they do a mean selection of pies and sandwiches as well as some artery clogging cakes yummy!

If it is a quaint, quiet and laid back holiday you pine for then Los Gigantes is for you. Anything else, the busier Costa Adeje or obscenely louder Las Americas is where you need to head for.

Quiet Spanish town with a selection of small bars and restaurants. Built into the cliffs it can be difficult walking back uphill, but taxis were regular and relatively inexpensive. Lovely harbour and went on a fantastic trip on the Flipper Uno to see dolphins and turtles.

Los Gigantes is a beautiful resort pretty much unspoiled by commercialism, thank goodness. There are a variety of water sports to take part in at reasonable prices. We went parasailing and it only cost 30 Euros per person.

There are some lovely little shops to browse in and pubs with entertainment on during the evening. Luckily there was no night clubs that we knew of, banging out loud noises throughout the evening. Beautiful place to relax and enjoy the scenery.

Beaches

Los Gigantes is located along the seafront and the majority of the shoreline is rocky. However, next to the harbour and protected by the harbour wall, there is a beach called Los Guios beach. The beach has black sands and clear waters.

Things to Do

Laze on the lido. Next to the harbour is the lido, El Laguillo, which is a lagoon style pool with wide sun terraces and also has a small natural rock pool in the sea. Just above the El Laguillo, is the Oasis Club which has pools for adults and children surrounded by lawned gardens with a bowling green. Both of these outdoor pools have a pool-side bar, plenty of space for sunbathing and open views to the sea.

Take a boat trip. From the harbour you can take pleasure cruises and fishing trips or the popular dolphin and whale watching trips. The clear waters are also popular for snorkelling and scuba diving trips and there is a PADI diving centre by the harbour too.

A popular trip is to take a bus or tour to the mountain village of Masca and then walk down the valley to Masca Beach. This scenic walk takes approx 3 hours and from the beach you can get a boat or water taxi back to Los Gigantes. The walking bit is optional of course.

Head into the Teide National Park. You don't have to go far, Chio (12km) is just 20 minutes drive from Los Gigantes and has a large picnic area set in the pine forests with fantastic views of Mount Teide.

Out and About

The resort is well maintained with trees, shrubs and flowers everywhere and ample supermarkets, tourist shops, bars and restaurants can be found throughout the resort.

The harbour is filled with small sailing craft and lined with pavement cafes and restaurants; always a relaxing spot for a fresh fish supper. There are many British menus to be found in the resort but there is also a full array of international choices. Again with the bars, there is a full choice from wine bars and live music to sports bars, irish bars and karaoke bars.

There is a sports and leisure complex up by the main bus stop with mini golf, tennis courts, a bowling green and an outdoor pool.

Nearby Attractions

You can walk along the coastal path into the neighbouring fishing village of Puerto Santiago. Along the way you will discover the rock pools of Crab Island and on arrival you will find some traditional Canarian restaurants.

At the next resort along, Playa de La Arena, which is approx 3km from Los Gigantes, there is a blue flag sandy beach. Nightlife is slightly livelier there than Los Gigantes too.
