If you want nightlife and tourist shops then don't choose El Medano. If you want peace and quiet and to feel like you are actually in Spain then this resort is perfect. There were no clubs or pubs with loud music nearby, we fell asleep listening to the sound of the waves and the restaurants had authentic Spanish food as well as English meals and were filled with locals as well as tourists. It was perfect for a peaceful holiday and we had an amazing time. We were right on the beach and my daughter spent most of her time there playing in the sea and the sand. Loved it.

If you want the perfect chilled holiday then this place is ideal. El Medano itself is small with not a lot of shops. We travelled to Siam Park which was close by, visited other towns and went on lovely walks.

This is probably a little on the low side, however I've rated El Medano a 3* as it was gale force winds when we arrived and not much better by the time we left. The temperature was 24 - 28 during our stay but felt more like 15 degrees because of the wind. We walked to the town a few times and found it to be a very quaint place with lots of cafes to enjoy a coffee and sit and watch the world go by. In the area that we walked, there were several clothing shops which sold unusual clothes, these were also of a high quality and the prices were very reasonable.

From the hotel you can take excursions. Shops in El Medano are varied, cheap and expensive designer clothes tucked away in the side streets.

El Medano is a lovely little Spanish town unspoilt by brash tourism, the local families still gather in the town square of an evening. There is a number of local bars and restaurants which are all reasonably priced.

It's a fantastic unspoiled place - like stepping back in time. Very oriented to windsurfing and kitesurfing as it does get very windy. The wind probably makes it unsuitable for people after a standard beach holiday.

The village of El Medano is great with plenty of bars and restaurants all at a reasonable prices. Not really suitable for children as there is not anything for them to do, except perhaps toddlers who only spend the day on the lovely beach. El Medano village is about a 20 minute walk from the hotel, shame they do not lay on a free shuttle bus but saying that it is good to walk and get some exercise to get rid of some calories from all the meals and drinks.

It's a very nice area, lovely beach with a lot of attractions. Not too expensive, very nice people, nice pubs and restaurant with good food. I really like it. I will love to go again.

Beaches

The main beach, in front of the town square, is sandy with shallow waters and backed by the boardwalk. Whilst much of the waterfront is used for watersports, this section of beach is popular with families. For peace and quite, there is a long stretch of natural beach behind the Montana Roja.

Things to Do

Surfing and kitesurfing are the number one activity in El Medano. If you decide to join in, the resort has more than its fair share of surf shops and centres offering tuition and safaris.

You can walk along the coastal path into Golf del Sur in about 2 hours or head up the side of the Montana Roja for uninterrupted views. Golf del Sur is also home to 2 golf courses; Golf del Sur and Amarilla Golf.

Relax at the ocean facing Spa Brisas del Mar with a body or beauty treatment or work your way around the facilities which include Turkish baths, aromatic showers, a thermal circuit, sauna and jacuzzi.

Out and About

El Medano caters to your shopping and everyday needs with a large supermarket, medical centre, bakery and cafes. Most of the bars have the laid back atmosphere that tends to go hand in hand with a surfing resort and there are some good tapas bars along the boardwalk. The tourist market is held on Saturdays and there is a farmers market on a Wednesday.

For designer shopping, chic restaurants or lively nightlife, Playa de las Americas is approx 20 minutes drive away.

Nearby Attractions

Los Abrigos is a charming little harbour town where you can enjoy some of the best fresh fish restaurants. It is approx 6km drive along the coast from El Medano or you can walk there in about an hour an a quarter.

Karting Club Tenerife is just 10 minutes drive (14km) and has circuits for juniors and seniors and a choice of karts, including twin karts and superkarts.

Head inland a little to Jungle Park at Chayofa (22km) and spend a day with the big cats and primates, watching the shows or raising your adrenalin on the Bob sled.
