My ideal location, a bit remote but enough going on if you wanted it. Ideally you should have a car to make the most of the area. The landscape is varied from sand to rock, lots to see and take in.

Although plenty of restaurants this is still essentially a fishing village. A lovely quiet place. If you require bars and partying go to Corralejo.

Great relaxing holiday, not lots to do but bus stop next to hotel to go to livelier places. Supermarket next to hotel with everything you would need, beach sandy for kids to play.

Plenty of restaurants to eat at but they closed early as we went out of season. Beaches beautiful but be aware they are all nudist beaches. Nothing much to do on a evening. Good bus service to Corralejo.

The beaches are beautiful, but the resort itself could do with some tidying up and everywhere you go the drains stink.

Great beaches, nice village with a few bars and restaurants but some are only open during high season! If you want to explore the island I would base more central in the island, hotter weather further central or south with a good few degrees difference in heat in sea water also.

A little gem of a resort. If you want a busy, bustling resort this is not for you, but if your requirement is a chilled out, laid back holiday with a lovely beach setting and a few bars/restaurants scattered around the old fishing port this place is sacrosanct.

El Cotillo is a great small sea side resort with a mix of restaurants small shops and supermarkets - there is also a French bakery. Great for a holiday only doing beach things, no serious attractions or theme/water parks, good for small children but older ones may get bored. The restaurants were good and you could spend what you wanted from good economic ones to really good but expensive ones.

Fantastic beaches but very few places to be able to get into the sea which was very rough. Only one beach bar which was expensive but very friendly. The resort is very concrete, a bit bleak apart from the old harbour. A lovely quiet place. We hired bicycles and enjoyed the flat roads but struggled on the sandy stretches. We were lucky with the weather as it was not windy.

We love El Cotillo. We have visited many times, and stayed for a fortnight on one occasion. If you want lively nightlife forget it. Strictly peaceful here. The lagoon beaches towards El Toston Lighthouse are the haunt of (largely German) nudists. If you are offended by this- it's not for you. These lovely beaches are the only beaches from which you can swim safely on the whole western coast of Fuerteventura. Everything else is for the surfboards. Walking, cycling, surfing, bare (besides nudists!), sandy and windswept desertic Arizona like landscapes make the area beautiful in a way quite unimaginable in the UK. Cotillo's heart is still its traditional fishing village. When we first came there was far less here - no car hire and fewer shops and cafes. But after a period of what seemed to us like recession induced stagnation, Cotillo is looking up again - but we must hope it's not a mixed blessing. If you look at Cotillo on Google Earth you will find it joined to neighbouring Los Lagos, with its grid of streets, hotels and highways. This is all marked out for development - even street lights have been in place for years, but nothing has yet been built! Cotillo itself still has land earmarked for development, and undeveloped existing build. But the advent of Los Lagos however, would destroy the very ambiance that makes Cotillo so lovely. They always seem to do this in Spain - take away what draws holidaymakers in the first place! As usual the quick buck rules. Cotillo is lovely - enjoy it while you can!

This resort requires more investment if it is to become a thriving holiday environment. Ideal for those wishing to rely on the hotel solely for entertainment, of which there was none during our stay! We could never recommend this resort or the hotel to friends or family.

Our only consolation were two restaurants in the heart of the fishing village, where the scenery was spectacular and thankfully the food excellent.

I hope this has given an accurate and honest opinion of our stay at this resort.

Eating out can be a bit expensive but the quality of the food is pretty good
We were self catering , the local shops were good value. The beaches are great and good for kids. All in it was for us a very relaxing stay at Sunset, the staff pleasant and helpful. Pity about the weather though.
We fell in love with El Cotillo over 16 years ago well before any development, the area is now protected, the old harbour is very nice and untouched, and the new harbour has been done in very good taste. The restaurants are very good and varied, the beaches are amazing. The sea is clean and the sunsets are just lovely. There are some great walks and bike trails. This is not a place for teenagers looking for nightlife, it is a very sleepy place to stay and chill. We hope it will stay that way.

Beaches

The long, sandy lagoon beaches are quiet, unspoiled and ideal for sun-bathing and watching the sunset. Divided into bays, formed by lava rocks, the waters here are clear, calm and ideal for swimming with shallow little rock pools where the kids love to play.

Following the road south from the new harbour and the Toston Tower you will come to the wild beaches favoured by experienced surfers.

Things to Do

In the town there are diving, scuba-diving, cycling and surfing centres; a colourful, but simple, children's playground and a couple of modern squares to relax in too.

There is also a small sports stadium where you might even catch the El Cotillo football team playing a home game.

Shops are limited as this is still an unspoiled fishing village, but you have bakeries and a supermarket as well as some very good restaurants.

Out and About

The harbours that front this traditional Canarian fishing village divide two very different coastlines which makes this secluded resort appealing to surfers as well as those seeking tranquility and uncrowded beaches.

Close to the new harbour you will see the historic, defense tower known as the Toston Tower. The tower is also known as the Castillo de Rico Roque and houses an information centre. It is similar in design to the Torre de San Buenaventura by the harbour in Caleta de Fuste.

A few moments walk from the new harbour in the opposite direction takes you past the old harbour and out to the lagoon beaches. If you walk along the lagoon beaches (2.5km) you will come to the Traditional Fishing Museum and the Toston Lighthouse, which affords spectacular views.

Nearby Attractions

Travellling through the volcanic landscapes, you can visit the traditional inland towns and villages of El Roque (1.5km), Lajares (7.5km), La Oliva (14km) and Mount Tindaya.

Corralejo, with its harbour, nightlife, waterpark, 9-hole golf course and famous Dunes Natural Park is approx 20km.
