Out and About

Costa Calida has been relatively untouched by mass tourism and offers plenty of unspoilt beaches for those looking for a quiet, relaxing beach holiday. Costa Calida is home to Mar Menor, one of the largest salt water lagoons in Europe. Mar Menor is formed behind a protruding piece of land and with calm waters and a maximum depth of 7m, it is the perfect spot for a whole range of watersports.

The nearest big city from Costa Calida is Murcia which has a stunning cathedral, museums and plenty of shops so great for a day out. Murcia also has several winemaking areas so for all those wine buffs out there, come along and sample some of the wine that is produced here.

There are plenty other areas of historical interest such as the ancient naval port of Cartagena which is home to a Roman Amphitheatre. There are many rock art sites in the area, dating back from between 6000 to 10000 years ago and are painted by the predominantly hunter-gatherer tribes who inhabited the land at this time so certainly worth seeing.

For families looking for a fun day out, why not visit the zoo or the waterpark which are situated on the road to Murcia. The biggest theme park, Terra Mitica is situated in Benidorm so is about 1.5 hours drive away and well worth a visit to keep the whole family amused.

Out for Lunch!

Costa Calida is known for its Spanish cuisine and Mediterranean diet. Vegetables are very popular and found in nearly every dish on the island. Some of the traditional dishes to try include Escalivada which is marinated vegetables, Chorizo-sausage served in chunks are cooked in wine and Patatas Bravas which is fried potatoes in a spicy tomato sauce.

Dine in one of the many restaurants scattered around. A more traditional menu will be found in the residential areas where the locals dine. In the tourist areas there are plenty of restaurants serving a good choice in International cuisine.
