Campanet is a small traditional village in the rural interior of Majorca, set at the foothills of the Tramuntana mountain range. It's an ideal area for enjoying outdoor pursuits such as hiking, cycling and even horse riding.
At the heart of Campanet village there is a Gothic church 'Sant Miguel', dating back to 1229 at the time of the Catalan invasion of the island. While shopping choices are limited, the village does offers some pleasant bars and restaurants.
An interesting sight in the area are the Caves of Campanet which were discovered in 1945 and are noted for their fine display of stalactites and stalagmites.
Just 10 km away is the city of Inca, known as the 'City of Leather' Inca is a great place to seek some leather bargains at the many shoe and leather discounted outlets. Inca's town centre has been pedestrianised and a pleasant place for a stroll along its palm-lined streets and peaceful squares. The town's main square 'Placa Santa Maria Major' is home to several cafes and bars, and the town's main church.
The islands capital of Palma is a must and can be reached by train directly from Inca making it a cheap and easy way to visit the city. Full of historical sites and museums Palma makes an ideal day excursion; visit the Gothic sights of La Seu Cathedral and Basilica de Sant Francesc, Palace de L'Almudaina found next to the cathedral and Castell de Bellver the only circular castle in Spain.
If you're looking to spend some time on the beach then the bay of Alcudia is just 10 km away, and with fine white sands which stretch for some 14 km finding the perfect bathing spot shouldn't be too difficult even in the busy summer months. The shallow water makes this area ideal for families and there are plenty of facilities available all along the beach with numerous watersports available and many restaurants, cafes and shops to be found along the promenade.
