Cala'n Porter Hotels Menorca, Spain

Cala'n Porter also has some interesting little caves above the town, some even have bars and clubs in them and being quite a small resort, you can probably walk from one end of the island to the other in approx 20 minutes.

Cala'n Porter

Cala'n Porter stands on a hillside and offers some fabulous views of the surrounding area. There is a beautiful little cove, however, this can become quite crowded during the summer months.

Quiet. Nice. Clean. Great Beach. Warm, blue sea. Two sun beds and a parasol were 17 euros but if you are there all day its worth it. Hotel will provide you with a picnic too! Had a day in Mahon, recommended and easy to get to on the bus from opposite the hotel (1.70 euros). Enjoy!

Cala'n Porter is a beautiful laid back holiday destination with enough bars restaurants and shops to visit. Not too many to make it too commercialised. Nice walks to take to beach and through residential areas. The caves are defo worth a visit. Not really suitable for the young and lively.

181 steps to beach or walk down steep hill. We always have a car, would not stay anywhere in Menorca without one. Local bus is only every hour to Mahon, very small quiet resort not much going on, perfect if you want to chill out and do nothing. Perfect for young families, you won't find any larger louts here.

Lovely little resort, great safe beach accessible via many steps or by car, good selection of bars and restaurants. There is a fun bar for children with mini race kart track (1 euro), trampolines and bouncy castles. We would recommend Seagrams, Sa Paissa and Castillo Sancho Panza restaurants and Dos Pablos for a more classy meal out (remember to book). 20 minute drive from the airport via Sant Clement (pick up some pastries from the bakery on the way through!). Irish bar and Sa Paissa offer good live entertainment although this tends to be on later 21.30/22.00. Book vehicle hire online before you go and try a local hire company.

It is a small resort which I was looking for. There are plenty of places to eat and many have entertainment in the evenings. I did not eat out as I was all inclusive. The beach is in a cove and there are nice views. The sea was warm and there was plenty of space on the beach. I did not venture further afield as I was just wanting to lie in the sun to read my book. However there was a regular bus service.

We thought the resort was pleasant. We just wanted a rest and spent most of the day on the beach. Resort not recommended if you want a wild one!! Perfect for families and couples. Good restaurants, however, most things come with chips! Lots of restaurants do a set meal which we tried but I wouldn't recommend, the wine is undrinkable and I can drink most things! Some of the restaurants do very good tapas. Pitos is very good for breakfast, basic restaurant but cheap! Would return.

There is everything you need for an enjoyable holiday e.g. choice supermarkets, a few shops and restaurants and bars. Good 3 course meal deals could be found eating out e.g. the Samoa restaurant. Stairs to the beach are ok on the way down but very steep on the way up. The road up from the beach is also pretty steep. Stair and road would both be a problem for people with walking/breathing issues, or managing young children. On the beach, 2 sunbeds and a parasol was 18 Euro per day. Pretty expensive compared to other island resorts.

Plenty of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. Lovely beech just across the road with access via a set of steep steps. There is also access via a road with a fair bit of parking. Also there are the usual loungers and brollies for hire and some pedalos and it has its own lifeguard station which was always manned during our stay. Would go again.

As it was early season it was very quiet which suited us anyway, beautiful beach and sea, walk down steps to beach kept us fit (if you have mobility problems this is not the resort for you if you want the beach). Cami de Cavalle round the island walk goes in both directions, service bus to Mahon (approx 20 mins) just a short walk from accommodation approx every hour and cheap. 3 pools available including slides for kids. 2 good supermarkets just over road from accommodation. There was some very good entertainment in other bars and hotels if that's what you want, a good selection of restaurants available in the resort. Taxi to and from airport was 17 euros so all in all a very enjoyable holiday.

The beach at Cala'n Porter is lovely, although pretty crowded at the time of our stay in August (as you would expect). The beach can be reached via 180 steps or by road, which is handy with a buggy.

The resort itself is small but has plenty of good restaurants, the majority of which are family friendly.

Loved the place overall. It was clean and tidy and most tourists left the area and beach clean. Bit British in the restaurants, but at least you knew what you was eating, although lacked a bit of the Spanish feel. We hired a car once there and toured the island so we could go to other beaches.

Cala'n Porter is a very small resort, purely for tourists with only gift shops and supermarkets. Restaurants were very good and reasonably priced. Sunset was lovely from Pulpo Restaurant. Beach is lovely but could have done with a little train service down and back from beach otherwise over 130 steps down, not easy with little children.

Beaches

Cala'n Porter is said to be one of the best beaches in Menorca and its fine sand and crystal clear waters make it just perfect for families with small children. There is a good selection of basic restaurants, bars and cafes along the promenade which is handy for refreshments. As well as a play area on the beach, you will also find a volleyball net, pedalos with slides and kayaks for hire so there is plenty to do if you get tired of sunbathing.

The beach can be reached by car, by walking down the beach road from the centre of the resort or by climbing down over 190 steps from the viewpoint overlooking the bay.

Things to Do

The resort is certainly aimed at families and visitors will find children's play areas, a go- kart track, amusement park rides and tennis courts, definitely something for everyone.

For those who enjoy walking, there is the Cami de Cavalls which is a well signposted route that takes you all over the island. Another way of seeing the countryside is to go on a horseriding excursion at Stables Farm or perhaps just take some lessons, either way you will be sure to have fun.

Cala'n Porter's fiesta is held each year on 3rd weekend in September and lasts from noon on the Friday to midnight on the Sunday. There is live music in the main square, Jaleo (rearing horses) on the beach, a parade through the town by horses and riders and the finale is an impressive firework display at midnight on the Sunday.

Out and About

Cala'n Porter has a good range of restaurants and offers a variety of cuisine, ranging from Chinese, Indian, British and traditional Menorcan dishes. A popular Menorcan dish is Caldereta which is seafood casserole served with lobster and langoustines with onion jam and aubergines are also popular, not to everyones taste but there is something to suit everyone. There are lots of snack bars too if you don't want a full sit down meal.

There are plenty of bars to choose from and some of them even offer live music and a variety of other entertainment. Whilst here, you must try and visit the Cova d'en Xoroi which is the most spectacular dance location on the lsland. The caves have been turned into a nightclub with some fantastic views and well worth a visit.

There are a few supermarkets round the resort which is handy for essentials and a handful of souvenir shops. There is a market featuring clothes and handicrafts in the summer evenings, in the resort centre.

Nearby Attractions

The little town of Alaior is just a 20 minute drive away and is full of little narrow streets with many shops, bars, restaurants and ice cream parlours. The town is famous for shoe making and you really must take time out to visit the Pons Quintana factory shop and see if you can grab a bargain.

The capital, Mahon is also 20 minutes away and offers plenty of opportunities for shopping, dining and sightseeing. There is also a gin distillery here which is worth a look.

Not only does Ciudadella have a great selection of shops and restaurants, there are also many historic things to see such as the 14th century gothic cathedral, a couple of museums and the remains of the fortified walls. For the perfect end to your day, venture down to the harbour for a drink and enjoy the atmosphere.

Various outdoor activities are available in S'Algar and Son Parc such as sailing and golf so there is plenty to do if you want to get away from Cala'n Porter for the day.
