The long clean beach is perfect for sun-bathing but also has a cycling lane and is popular for bodyboarding, windsurfing and kitesurfing.

Things to Do

Between the beach and the large lakes of Tijuca and Jacerepaqua, lies the natural bird breeding grounds of Bosque de Barra which has jogging and cycling paths through the woods, and the nature trails and picnic areas at Parque Marapendi.

Natural attractions continue to the west of town at the Parque Estedual de Pedra Branca, a huge urban forest with lush trails and many scenic view points. The park is also home to the Pico da Pedra Branca mountain, which you can see for miles around.

Out and About

Surrounded by national parks, gorgeous deep blue lakes and 14 miles of golden beaches, Barra de Tijuca is a modern lifestyle district of high rise buildings, wide roads, stylish shopping malls, hypermarkets, nightclubs and leisure facilities.

Barra Shopping is the largest Mall and has over 600 stores, a 20 lane bowling alley, an amusement centre and many restaurants. It even has a monorail and replica statues of world famous landmarks including the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Tower Bridge, the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty.

Downtown Shopping covers several blocks and also has countless restaurants and fast food outlets.

You can spend time exploring the historic and cultural attractions that fill the city of Rio de Janerio, which is approx 28km away.
