There are no beaches as such on the coastline of Barlovento but there are some natural seawater rock pools that are quite popular. Approx 5km from the town of Barlovento, the Piscinas la Fajana comprises 3 natural seawater swimming pools of varying depths and you can sunbathe on the rocks or seek shade in the caves. Services available include a restaurant, toilets, showers and a car park.

Things to Do

The Barlovento Laguna Park lies just outside of Barlovento (approx 3km south) and comprises a leisure park and camping ground next to the large freshwater reservoir, which was originally a crater. On high ground, the park offers extensive views over the area and features a children's playground, multi-sports field, an adventure park with climbing towers, bridges and zip wires; a craft shop, picnic area and a restaurant.

Explore the network of hiking trails through Caldera de Taburiente National Park enjoying a landscape of forests, streams and waterfalls. The Caldera is approx 10km wide and up to 2km deep and offers impressive viewing points, some of which can be reached by car.

Bosque de Los Tilos is also very nearby and provides you with beautiful walks through the laurel forests, taking in tunnels and panoramic viewing points along the way.

Out and About

Barlovento is a pleasant little town with all your everyday essentials like supermarkets and ATM banking.

If you would like to learn a little of the farming traditions and ways of country life on the island, there is an Ethnological Museum in the charming rural village of Garafia on the north coast, to the west of Barlovento. Also at Garafia you can stroll through the woods at La Garzita and see the rock carvings and caves of La Zara.

Nearby Attractions

From the viewing point at the Roque de los Muchachos, which is the highest peak of the island and located within the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, you can admire spectacular views to neighbouring islands. Whilst not generally open to the public, the Roque is also home to La Palma Observatory and Telescope Park.

To the south of Barlovento, on the east coast, there is a seawater pool at Charco Azul. In the nearby town of Los Sauces, you will also find the Gofio Museum which tells the history of the corn mill. A little further south, you can stroll around the charming palm lined cobbled streets of San Andres.
