Armacao de Pera Reviews

(3 suns)

The rooms are outside Armacao, the town is nice, it has a local feel, it was quieter September but still plenty of places to eat. The area where the rooms are is very quiet, there are hills to overcome which can be a problem.

Lovely Old Town, beautiful beaches and the Portuguese are so nice and friendly.

Beautiful unspoiled place: gorgeous long beach with great promenade from one end to the other. Easy walking in the main although there are some hills. Plenty of small locally owned restaurants and cafe bars. Suits young families and older people. Not much by way of nightlife for younger people - everything in September closed by 12 at latest. Not a music resort - more a relaxed holiday destination.

Holiday Date:23rd Aug 2017
Accommodation:Algar Apartments and Hotel
Room:Apt - Sea View
Board:Self Catering

Plenty of restaurants and snack bars within a stone throw from the apartments, handy free tourist map lists plenty of the best ones, try going off the main tourist area promenade more round the back / side streets were there's numerous eateries were the locals use and are probably far cheaper.

Beaches

The town's main beach is Praia Grande and it stretches out for over 3km which allows for plenty of space for relaxing on the fine golden sand. The sand gently slopes into the sea which makes it ideal for children. There are plenty of watersports available from the beach too.

There are 2 smaller beaches in the resort which are ideal for those who wish to escape the crowds.

Things to Do

There is plenty to see and do in this laid back fishing village. Wander through the winding streets and admire the many historical buildings such as the Main Church of Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Rocha (Our Lady of the Rock) or the 18th century Church of St. Anthony which sits inside the remains of the 17th century fort on the waterfront.

A great way to travel around the town is the tourist train. The train stops at various points along the way and runs from 10am till 11.15pm and is approx 3 euors.

There are plenty of golf courses in Armacao and the surrounding area so if golf is your thing then you will certainly be at home here.

Out and About

There are plenty of shops here in Armacao de Pera and with 2 large shopping centres, you are bound to find what you are looking for. There are plenty of supermarkets, boutiques and the usual touristy shops so there is plenty on offer. Lisbon is just a short bus ride away and offers a bigger selection of shops and departments stores.

Many of the restaurants can be found in the old town and offer a wide variety of cuisine, from traditional to international dishes. Some seafood restaurants can also be found down at the beach area and are very reasonably priced.

There are plenty of bars in the resorts and a couple of nightclubs so plenty of options should you wish a late night. There is always entertainment in some of the hotels and there is even a casino in the resort so you will not be stuck for something to do.

If you are lucky enough to be visiting in the last weekend of July and first weekend of August, you can check out the Arraial do Petisco. The festival is held at the sportsground offers live music each night and into the early hours. You can also sample some traditional snacks and main courses and is a great night out for the whole family.

Nearby Attractions

A 20 minute drive will take you to the town of Silves, with its 15th century castle and fantastic views of the fields and citrus groves. There is also the Gothic arches cathedral and the Archaeological Museum with Iron Age relics.

If you want to combine water and animals, take a trip to Zoomarine, Portugal's only animal and marine park. There are dolphin shows, sea lion shows, water birds, birds of prey, a great aquarium and also an alligator compound. You can also take some time out and relax by the pool or have some fun on the amusement rides, whatever you choose to do, the whole family will have a great day out.

There is a big water park, Aqualand in Alcantarilha which is just a 10 minute drive away. There is a variety of water slides and attractions for the whole family to enjoy. The park is open from the end of May to the middle of September.

There is also a karting track nearby which is a replica of the Jacarepagua Formula 1 circuit in Brazil and is a whole lot of fun for all the family.
