Not much of a resort, more like a few shops and restaurants. Not commercialised in any way which is good if you want a more relaxed holiday. We hired a car and travelled out and about. There is a beach which is quiet all week but very busy at weekends.

Resort was peaceful, beautiful and classy, but this was a small bay round the corner from the harbour at Arguineguin, which was a much more working Spanish port.

Not the biggest of towns, you could easily walk around comfortably in a morning. Good prices in the shops, which mainly cater for tourists. The beaches although not the best for size or sand were well kept and tidy. Myself and family found one good beach around 10/15 mins walk from our hotel (Dorado Beach) which we visited a couple of times and the kids had great fun chasing waves.

There isn't really anything around the resort worth going out of the hotel (Dorado Beach) for. There are a few bars, restaurants and shops but it definitely isn't a tourist resort. The beach isn't great but the kids loved the sea and it was very safe. We were grateful that the hotel was so lovely that we didn't have to escape out, otherwise would have been disappointed.

Quiet. Turn right out of back of hotel for a resort - 10 mins walk - Alfi - restaurants and hotel. Turn left out of hotel for Arguin - 20-30 mins walk. Market on a Tuesday.

It is really Patalavaca which has plenty of restaurants and other commerce. Arguineguin is about a mile away and is a simple typical old Spanish town and all the better for that.

Beaches

Narrow dark sand beaches line the two horseshoe bays in front of the town and there is a further beach behind the harbour.

Newer developments have spread northwards along the seafront, passing the fine sands of Patalavaca Beach all the way to the bay at La Verga. Here you will find the Anfi group of hotels, a shopping centre and a sweeping beach of golden sand, separated from the Anfi del Mar Marina by the lush gardens of Anfi Island.

Things to Do

A ferry service operates between the Arguineguin Harbour and the Anfi del Marina and also runs into the nearby resorts of Puerto Mogan and Puerto Rico. There are also opportunities for glass bottom boat trips, whale-spotting cruises, deep sea fishing and water-sports including diving and scuba diving.

Family friendly days out include the trips to the Aqualand Maspalomas waterpark (16km), the zoo and gardens at Palmitos Park (20km) and the wild west theme park, Sioux City (25km).

Out and About

Around the harbour area, Arguineguin retains the feel of a traditional Spanish fishing town with everyday local shops as well as bars, pavement cafes and restaurants with fresh fish and international dishes on the menu.

Behind the harbour there is a large street market, which takes place on Tuesdays.

Nearby Attractions

Alternative beaches can be found nearby at the gorgeous turquoise bay at Amadores (5km), the lively resort of Puerto Rico (3km) or the vast sands of Maspalomas (14km).

The nearest 18 hole golf courses are Anfi Tauro Golf (7.5km) and Salobre Golf (9km), both of which also have a clubhouse, an Academy and a Pro golf shop.
