Third Week of August Most Popular for Brits to Holiday Abroad

Posted by Sue Anderson, 26th Aug 2014

We can reveal that the third week of August, is officially the most popular week for Britons to take a holiday abroad. The stats, based on our bookings, reveal that the third week of August is when most Britons are out of the country for their holidays, with Benidorm, Sharm el Sheikh and Marmaris revealed as the most popular destinations.

We delved into our booking statistics to uncover trends and patterns amongst holidaymakers from around the UK. Bookings for holidays throughout 2014 were analysed to reveal more about the nation's preferences in terms of destinations and time of holiday.

Holidays booked to take place during this week alone accounted for 11% of our overall bookings for the year, which is more than any other week so far. So, as we Brits all seem to be abroad, we investigated our on-site booking trends to find that the most popular destinations for Britons travelling abroad during this week are as follows:

Benidorm (Spain) - 11%

Sharm el Sheikh (Egypt) - 9%

Marmaris (Turkey) - 8%

Playa de las Americas (Tenerife) - 7%

Costa Adeje (Tenerife) - 5%

Puerto del Carmen (Lanzarote) - 5%

Albufeira (Portugal) - 3%

Puerto Rico (Gran Canaria) - 3%

Costa Teguise (Lanzarote) - 2%

Playa del Ingles (Gran Canaria) - 1%

Our MD, Chris Clarkson, said the following:

"Booking trends are always important for us to monitor, so that we can ensure that we supply the best offers available to our customers during the most popular times. The streets may be a bit quieter soon with so many Britons off on their holidays, but with the school summer holidays now in full swing it's easy to see what the third week of August was such a popular one for bookings.

"It would appear that the classic holiday destinations for Brits, such as Benidorm, are still highly popular with our customers, whilst the slightly further afield destinations, such as Sharm el Sheikh, are constantly growing in popularity. Hopefully, the recent warm weather will continue for those stuck in the UK unable to go away!"
