Beaches

There are four sandy beaches along the coast of Torrevieja, as well as several coves and natural pools. The main beaches are serviced by plentiful bars, restaurants and shops, play-areas and life guards. The long promenade links the Playa de los Naufragos beach in the south up to Playa de la Mata in the north.

El Cura beach is situated at the centre of the resort, making it one of the more popular strips of sand. The beach is backed by the promenade, with a good selection of bars and restaurants to hand.

Things to do

There are two waterparks in the area, Aquopolis Torrevieja is situated in the centre of the resort, and the Aqua-Park Rojales is around 3km outside of the town. Both feature a good number of waterslides, children's fun-pool and eateries.

The Rio Safari Elche is around 20km away; highlights of the park include the reptile cave, crocodile farm and chimpanzee island. There are also shows, trampolines, a kart circuit and during the summer months a pool with slide.

The island of Tabarca, is just off the coast of Alicante, once used as a refuge for pirates it forms part of a small archipelago and is just 1,800 metres in length and 400 metres at its widest point. An interesting day out, visitors can enjoy the crystal-clear waters, a picturesque fishing port with excellent seafood restaurants, coves and beaches, the island can be reached by a one hour boat ride, which can be picked up at the Santa Pola Port, 27km from Torrevieja.
