Beaches

The beach at Tarajalejo is of dark sand with a belt of stones and pebbles and backed by a palm-lined walkway. Tourism is relatively new to the resort but the beach is popular with locals and watersports available include surfing, windsurfing, kayaking and catamaran sailing.

Alternative nearby beaches which also have dark sands, include the very quiet, and stony, beaches in the neighbouring villages of Giniginamar (10km) and La Lajita (4km) and the large bay at La Playitas (18km), which has a sailing school. To the south of Tarajalejo, the white sand beaches at Costa Calma (12km) are sheltered and the famous Sotavento Beach (17km) is perfect for windsurfing and kitesurfing.

Things to Do

The popular animal park and botanical gardens at Oasis Park in La Lajita is just 4km away. Here you can observe the animals living in a natural environment, stroll around the gardens, stop for lunch, watch the entertaining and educational shows featuring birds of prey, reptiles, parrots and sea lions and take the camel safari for fabulous views over the ocean and surrounding area.

Out and About

Inland towns and villages can be reached via main roads which are surrounded by endless views of desert landscapes, mountains and volcanos. Discover the historic importance of grain production and the Fuerteventura windmills at the Los Molinos Interpretation Centre in Tiscaminita (21km).

Stroll around the attractive tree-lined streets in the old town of Pajara (26km) and visit its 17th century church, the Nuestra Senora de la Regla. From Pajara you could head up the mountain to the village and museums of Betancuria or branch off to the rugged west coast and explore the caves of Ajuy.
