St Julians

The best resort on the island, if you are looking for a lively nightlife. St Julian's is well equipped to cater for young groups, and couples, offering bars and eateries that would satisfy the most discerning diner. During the day, St Julian's can offer good sea views, but if its a sandy beach that you are looking for, then you will have to travel to nearby St George's bay. Transfer time from Malta airport is approximately 30 minutes.

Beaches

The coastline of St Julians runs from the small sandy beach at Balluta Bay to the larger sandy beach at St Georges Bay. In between, you will find a lido with an outdoor swimming pool, a water polo club, the picturesque harbour at Spinola Bay and the secluded Portomaso Marina. All around this part of the coastline there are lots of flat rocks which you can sunbathe on and gain easy access into the sea which is perfect for swimming and snorkelling. At St Georges Bay you will find scuba diving, pedalos, windsurfing and sailing.

Things to Do

Whatever the weather, Bay Street Shopping Centre is open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and houses a choice of restaurants, an amusement centre, indoor and outdoor play areas for kids and a good mix of independent stores and designer brands. Next door to the shopping centre you have the Eden multi-screen cinema and the Eden Superbowl which has a 20 lane bowling centre, bar and cafe.

The Spinola Harbour is filled with local fishing boats and a great place for lunch or an evening stroll. The Portomaso Marina on the other hand is packed with luxury yachts and lined with chic bars and sophisticated restaurants and equally attractive during the day or the evening.

Sitting almost on it's own island, the Dragonara Casino is housed in a converted 19th century palace, surrounded by a collonaded balcony. The Casino has live table games, a bar and restaurant and plenty of slots, including many penny machines.

Out and About

St Julians comprises 4 main areas; the old part of St Julians, Spinola Bay, Paceville and St Georges. For sedate nightlife, waterfront bars and cafes, people watching and pretty harbour views, choose the old part of St Julians, Balluta Bay and Spinola Bay.

For modern shopping and entertainments go for the St Georges area. For lively bars with DJ and karaoke party nights, sports bars, clubs and the most frenetic nightlife in Malta, head for the area around St Rita Steps in the heart of Paceville.

Nearby Attractions

St Julians is on the bus route to the capital of Valletta where there are narrow streets full of shops, wine bars and cafes. The city is awash with history and there are a number of museums and visitor attractions including St John's Cathedral, the Palace Staterooms, the National War Museum, Malta 5D and the Malta Experience. And of course, no visit would be complete without a cruise tour of Valletta's two natural harbours, the Marsamxetto Harbour and the Grand Harbour.

There are several tour companies in the resort for organised sightseeing tours of the ancient cities and the archaeological sites; trips to the markets, boat trips to Gozo and excursions to leisure attractions, such as Popeye's Village.
