San Bartolome de Tirajana

Environment

The historic town of San Bartolome de Tirajana is located in the Tirajana Crater, close to the centre of the island, flanked to it's east and west by the Barrancos of Tirajana and Arguineguin and surrounded by the heights of the Morros del Pinar and Pico de las Nieves.

Things to Do

In the old quarter of town, you can explore the narrow attractive streets around Saint Bartholomews church, parts of which date back to the 17th century, admire fabulous views over the Tirajana Crater and visit the Sunday market, held in the church square.

In the neighbouring town of Santa Lucia de Tirajana (7km) you can enjoy similarly traditional architecture and extensive views. Places of interest here include the Church of Santa Lucia, the Fortress Castle Museum and the lovely park gardens which lie in between.

Out and About

The region boasts exceptional landscapes for walking, hiking and climbing. Heading towards the coast through the village of La Sorrueda will reward you with lovely views over the palm groves and the Sorrueda Dam.

Ascending north of San Bartolome de Tirajana through the mountain villages and along the winding roads with far-reaching views. From here you can reach the highest points on the island, Roque Nublo (16km) and branch off through the pine forests to Pico de las Nieves.

Nearby Attractions

Heading east you can explore the charming streets and authentic local atmosphere in the town of Aguimes (25km) and visit the animal sanctuary and crocodile park in nearby Los Corralillos (5km).

San Bartolome de Tirjana is a similar distance from the beaches on both the east and south coasts. To the south, the extensive sands and bright lights of Playa del Ingles, golf courses, the water park and the famous Maspalomas Dunes are approx 25km away and to the east, you have the surfing beach of Pozo Izquierdo and the marine reserve for scuba diving at Arinaga.
