Mykonos

Mykonos Hotels

Mykonos is a major tourist destination, renowned for its cosmopolitan character and its intense nightlife. Along with Santorini, Mykonos is more expensive than other Greek islands and can get rather busy in July and August. The quieter Mykonos Town is a beautiful town with many pretty little streets and whitewashed buildings and churches, well worth a visit.

How Hot?

The tourist season on Mykonos runs from May to October, with early temperatures of 73-79ºF (23-26ºC), rising to 82ºF (28ºC) in the summer months of July and August.

The season still ends on a high with September and October average temperatures of 73-79ºF (23-26ºC).

Out and About

Mykonos is great for anyone looking for a little history and Greek culture and with some interesting day trips available you will be sure to find it all here. There is so much to see, from the Island of Delos, Little Venice, the Kato Myli windmills and the monastery and Archaeological Museum at Ano Mera. The labyrinth of streets in Mykonos Town offer some great shopping and dining opportunities.

The main attraction on Mykonos is certainly the beaches and there are many diverse stretches available such as nudist areas, gay beaches which boast a party atmosphere, family-friendly sheltered bays and peaceful areas for those who want a little peace and quiet. A lot of these beaches also offer a whole host of watersports, such as banana boats, jet-skis, water skiing and paragliding. Due to the strong winds in Mykonos, it is very popular for both windsurfing and kitesurfing.

As if that is not enough, there are also some established dive schools and centres so if you fancy exploring the reefs and rocks and the numerous wrecks then come along and give it a go. Another great way to see the island is to set sail for a cruise and explore the area in a more relaxing manner.

Mykonos does not just offer water based activities, horseriding is a great activity and a fantastic way to explore the countryside with it's paths and trails and windmills and chapels you can take in the splendour of the area. If you prefer something a little faster, try taking an off-road Jeep safari to discover the beaches and remote villages.

Mykonos is said to be one of the most fashionable of the Greek Islands, offering a cosmopolitan scene with plenty of bars, trendy clubs and restaurants. Although Mykonos is a favourite gay island, it does cater to a varied clientele.

Out for Lunch!

Mykonos has a vast array of dining options ranging from luxury restaurants to snack bars and fast food outlets. The cuisine in Mykonos mixes continental and Greek flavours including Thai, Sushi, Tex-mex and Italian. You can enjoy a meal whatever your budget may be. Try the traditional Mykonian cheese pies, Greek salad or the popular toasties. Gyros and crepes are a very popular snack in Mykonos as is Greek yogurt drizzled in honey.

Dine al Fresco at the waters edge, on a terrace, in a garden or a small local taverna, either way you will discover the wonderful delights Mykonos has to offer.
