The tourist season runs from April to October, peaking in July and August with temperatures reaching 86ºF (30ºC). Lefkas enjoys a Mediterranean climate with long hot summers and short mild winters.

Out and About

Lefkas is linked to mainland Greece by a swing bridge which means it has all the benefits of an island atmosphere, together with easy access to western Greece.

There are many beautiful beaches to be found on Lefkas with the beaches at Kathisma and Porta Katsiki being regarded as among the best sandy beaches on the Ionian Islands. The bay at Vassiliki is world famous among windsurfers so if watersports is something you are keen on then this is the place to visit.

The main resort is Nidri, with it's large sheltered bay and variety of bars, restaurants and traditional Greek tavernas, it is the most developed resort on the island.

Meganissi is also worth a trip to see the large impressive sea caves. If you are feeling active, explore the beautiful landscape and olive groves on foot or by bike and perhaps see where the olive oil, honey and wine are all produced.

Nightlife on Lefkas is fairly mixed, there are plenty of local tavernas for a quiet night or if you fancy some traditional plate smashing, take a trip to Lefkas Town. For those who want to party into the wee small hours then a trip to Ligia is a must, so however you want to spend your night there are plenty of options in Lefkas.

Large parts of the island remain untouched by tourism which perhaps adds to the appeal. There are hill villages nestling in the lush green pine forests, rugged cliffs, rocky shores and exposed beaches just waiting to be explored.

Lefkas serves both Greek and International food with the wider choices being served in Nidri and Lefkas Town. In the small villages around the island you can enjoy a traditional meal in one of the local tavernas serving locally grown produce. Olive oil, honey and grapes are widely used in Lefkas.

Whilst dining on the island try the Savoro which is fish cooked in garlic, onion and rosemary or Aliada a typical Greek dish. Mezes are a fantastic way to try a variety of Greek dishes. This is where you can order a variety of starters and appetizers, set them in the middle of your table for all to enjoy. Some of the dishes in mezes include tzatziki, Greek salad, souvlaki and squid. Whether you are self catering or staying in a 5 star All Inclusive complex, you must try the typical cuisine.
