How Hot?

Halkidiki has a typically Mediterranean climate, with long hot summers and little rain. Average temperatures throughout the year are from June 66ºF (19ºC), July 75ºF (24ºC), August and September 79ºF (26.6ºC), and October 70ºF (21.5ºC).

Out and About

Halkidiki is a more relaxed, laid back resort compared to some of the more developed resorts but there is still loads to do with plenty of beaches and outdoor activities.

If you are looking for some souvenirs to take home or you just fancy treating yourself, take a trip to Thessaloniki, it's full of classic antique stores and top designer boutiques and is a great alternative to a day at the beach. Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece also has a great range of shops.

For a relaxing day out, take a boat trip along the 'Holy Mountain's west coast' from Ouranoupolis to the enchanting Mount Athos to see some fantastic monasteries.

There are some beautiful beaches in Halkidiki but Possidi beach offers much more, it offers some beautiful views and some great sights to explore such as the remains of an ancient temple and the colonial lighthouse.

The Cave of Petralona with it's intriguing canyons and the nearby Anthropological Museum in the capital of Polygyros is a great way to find out about the history of Halkidiki and soak up some Greek culture at the same time.

Outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking and horse riding are popular as there are many quaint villages and stunning woodland to be explored.

Halkidiki prides itself in it's nightlife and offers something for everyone whether they like clubbing or enjoy a quiet meal in one of the waterfront restaurants. The towns of Kalithea, Polygyros and Hanioti tend to be quite lively with buzzing cocktail bars and open-air nightclubs. If you prefer something a little more subdued, the small villages of Skioni and Marmasas are probably more suitable.

Halkidiki has a Greek influence to its cuisine as well as Oriental and European input to it. The food in Halkidiki is both simple to make and very tasty. The best way to try a variety of different foods in Halkidiki is by having a meze. This is a variety of appetizers and starters set in the middle of the table for all to enjoy. Mezes can include Greek salads, dolmades, tzatziki, soups, cheese pies, soutzoukakia and souvlaki.

There are plenty of restaurants for you to enjoy the food in Halkidiki. Dotted around the resort are numerous luxury restaurants to enjoy traditional cuisine. There are snack bars on every street corner offering the local snacks including gyros. Travel further inland to discover small local tavernas where there are limited choices but will be of local menus using local produces.
