Fortaleza, Brazil
Fortaleza boasts 34km of sandy beaches and, as a well developed tourist resort offers a range of activities and entertainments. The Biera Mar promenade is lined with restaurants and there are many nightclubs near Iracema Beach. Spend an evening at the craft fair on the beach and walk along the pier to see the sun set.

Relax on the popular Beira Mar and Iracema beaches, watch the local fishermen from Mucuripe Beach and enjoy watersports and the seafood kiosks on Future Beach.
Shopping and cultural venues in the resort include the modern Iguatemi Shopping Mall (with over 300 stores), the Sea Dragon Art and Culture Centre, the impressive Jose de Alencar theature) and the Mercado Central (with around 500 stalls). The city has an international airport and is home to the Castelao Sports Stadium plus, there is an Aqua Park at nearby Aquiraz.
Beaches
The best beach for sunbathing and surfing is Praia do Futuro which runs south from the port. To the other side of the port the urban beaches offer welcome shade from the trees before opening out onto the wider sands of Iracema Beach.
Things to Do
Historic and cultural attractions include the Centro Dragao do Mar de Arte e Cultura which is spread over several blocks incorporating museums, galleries and a planetarium; the Jose de Alencar Theatre, an architecturally impressive building hosting various cultural events, particularly at the weekends.
Boat tours can be taken along the Rio Coco at the Coconut Ecological Park and you can also follow the ecological and walking trails. The park is located opposite the popular Iguatemi Shopping Centre.
Out and About
Beaches, trendy bars and lively nightlife are the main attraction of Fortaleza and there is a huge choice of barracas near the port and along the Praia do Futuro.
The Fortaleza Central Market is a 4 storey shopping centre, comprising hundreds of shops and stalls. In the evenings there is a popular market by the beach selling handicrafts.
Nearby Attractions
A fun day out away from the city is the Aquiraz Beach Park (28km) which comprises an Aqua Park and a Beach Park with sports courts, fitness classes and a wave school.
