The Costa del Sol has an attractive stretch of coastline with many fishing villages and towns, which have now become holiday resorts. Much of the coastline has mountains close by, creating some dramatic views.

With sandy beaches, lively resorts, over 40 golf courses and over 100km of spectacular coastline, there is something for everyone here is Costa Del Sol.

A lot of the resorts here do have lots to offer with plenty of activities as well as plenty of opportunities to relax.

How Hot?

With more than 320 days of sunshine a year the Costa del Sol is a year round destination; it just depends on what you plan to do during your visit.

The spring and autumn months (late April to June and September to October) see great weather with temperatures between 71ºF and 78ºF, and also benefit from being off season so less crowded.

The peak season is July and August when the climate is hot and dry with temperatures in the high-eighties.

The winter months average highs of 62ºF, though these are the wettest months it's still a great time to play on the many golf courses in the area.

Out and About

Dominating the south eastern Mediterranean coast of Spain, the Costa del Sol offers mile upon mile of golden sands and glittering beach resorts set against the backdrop of the beautiful Andalucian countryside.

From the ever popular major beach magnets of Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola and the chic glamour of Marbella and Puerto Banus to the beautiful and cultural city of Malaga, the characterful town of Nerja and the mountain villages of Benavis and Mijas; sun, sand, golf and traditional Spanish culture can be found in abundance.

The Costa del Sol is a golfer's paradise with around 40 courses to choose from with beautiful landscapes overlooking the Mediterranean, the surrounding countryside or the mountains. Water-sports can be enjoyed at all the main beaches and there are marinas in Marbella, Benalmadena, Malaga and Velez-Malaga, Estepona, Fuengirola, Puerto Banus and La Duqesa-Manilva.

Leisure attractions to visit include the Adventura Amazonia in Marbella and the fabulous Aqualand Torremolinos. There is a further water park at Parque Aquatico in Mijas Costa and there is no shortage of animal parks either. Visit the Bioparc Fuengirola which has been beautifully designed, allowing you to see the animals living in faithfully reproduced natural habitats. Selwo Adventure Park in Estepona has an adventure park with zip wires and camel rides as well as a wildlife park with over 2000 animals. In Benalmadena you can visit the Sealife Centre or the dolphinarium and the penguinarium at the Selwo Marina marine life park. In Torremolinos, Cocodrilos Park is set around 8 lakes and has an African village, a children's play area and a huge collection of crocodiles.

Historic attractions abound, from the Sohail Castle in Fuengirola to La Duquesa Castle in Manilva and the Arab Fortress and Palace of Najera at Antequera. Malaga alone features endless historic and cultural attractions including Malaga Cathedral, the Alcazaba, the Picasso Museum and the Roman Theatre. At Nerja, stand under the arches of the famous Balcony of Europe and admire panoramic sea views and for spectacular views over the city of Malaga, head for the 14th century Gibralfaro Castle.

Natural attractions range from the Caves of Nerja and the Calamorro Mountain at Benalmadena which have general appeal as well as opportunities for caving and paragliding for those seeking higher levels of adventure; to the wide open spaces, forests of oak and pine trees and the impressive gorges and mountains of the region's many national parks.

Costa del Sol has an Andalucian cuisine which is a mixture of different cultures. Its famous dishes include Ajo Blanco, Huevos a la Flamenca and Gazpacho. The cuisine has a great influence of former cultures like the Arab culture for the garden products and the Roman culture for the oils and garlic.

Dine anywhere from the high class restaurants in Marbella and Puerto Banus to the cafes on the beaches and mountains of La Axarquia and Pueblos Blancos. There are many festivals in Costa del Sol therefore perfect for trying out the great choice of cuisine and traditional local food.
