How Hot?

Costa Azahar sees more than 320 days of sunshine a year, enjoying a typical Mediterranean climate it provides the ideal base for a summer holiday.

Average high temperatures during the summer months range from 79ºF in June and at least 86ºF in July and August. On average the wettest period is late September to October, though still with average high temperatures in the low-seventies.

Out and About

Lying south of the Costa Blanca, the Costa del Azahar boasts a coastline of golden beaches surrounded by a countryside filled with forests and fruit groves with a mountainous backdrop.

The main beaches offer miles of golden sands and a host of watersports are available including windsurfing and waterskiing, jet skiing and scuba diving. The region also has a number of natural parks with plentiful opportunities for hiking, cycling and outdoor activities. Take a boat trip to the protected reserve of the Columbretes Islands which is perfect for scuba diving or; along the clear waters of the underground river, through the colourful ancient caves of St Joseph's Caverns.

There are a number of marinas along the coast, with sailing, fishing and boat trips readily available and there are also 3 golf courses. The golf courses all offer additional sporting and practise facilities and you can find the Panoramica Golf at San Jordi and the Costa Azahar Golf Club and Club de Campo del Mediterraneo at Castellon.

For fun family days out there is the Aquarama Water Park in Benicassim and the Castellon Planetarium near Pinar Beach at Castellon de la Plana. Benikart Go Kart Track, also in Benicassim, has circuits and karts for kids, adults and experts.

The resort of Marina d'or, which lies next to the larger resort of Oropesa del Mar, has many attractions for families from the beach front gardens to the water-park, the children's rides at the Mundo Fanastia kids park to the assault courses and adrenalin rides at the Aventura d'Or theme park. At Marina d'or you will also find Europe's largest seawater spa which boasts indoor and outdoor areas featuring just about all of the facilities you can think of.

The city of Valencia boasts long stretches of beach, colourful markets and modern shopping centres as well as a wealth of beautiful squares and historic attractions. Stroll along the Calle la Paz and around the Plaza de la Virgen, the Plaza de la Reina and Glorieta Square. Visit the historic Mercado Central food market and the buzzing street market in the fishing district of Cabanyal; browse the IVAM art gallery or tour the famous Lladro factory and see the spectacular Plaza de Toros Bull Ring.

Other towns with historic attractions worthy of a visit include the walled hillside city of Morrella, its medieval castle and fortress and; the Peniscola Castle which affords spectacular views over the town and the Mediterranean coast.

The Costa del Azahar has a coastline stretching for over 100 km, providing ample seafood and one of the main ingredients in the local cuisine. Common dishes to be found on most menus include red mullet, lobster, shrimp, mixed seafood platters, fish stew, grilled sardines and of course paella.

The area has plenty of eateries to choose from, ranging from traditional Spanish restaurants to Chinese, Italian, Swiss and German, there are also plenty of beachside café-bars, ice-cream parlours and take away joints.
