This rural location is situated approx 10 km from the airport. A traditional area with narrow streets and terracotta coloured buildings.

The nearby attraction of Parque de Cocodrilos Zoo offers a great day out.

Beaches

The picturesque and historic town of Aguimes is surrounded by mountains and valleys yet, less than 20 minutes from the coast. The sandy beaches of the south coast and the Maspalomas dunes are approx 30km away.

Things to To

In Aguimes town centre, sit among the local residents soaking up the relaxed atmosphere under the trees in the main square, opposite the imposing Church of San Sebastian. Stroll around the timeless narrow streets and learn of local cultural heritage at the town's Museum of History and the Historic Interpretation Centre.

Annual events hosted by the town of Aguimes include the popular fiesta, Traia del Gofio y Agua, celebrating an age old custom of 'bringing gofia and water' (September), the International Theatre Festival (July) and the International Cycling Tour (December).

A popular nearby attraction is the Parque de Cocodrilos in the neighbouring town of Los Corralillos (5km). The park is a sanctuary for zoo and farm animals as well as over 300 crocodiles and there are daily parrot and crocodile shows too.

Out and About

On the outskirts of the town, the Guayadeque Ravine provides a network of scenic walking and hiking trails through evergreen woodlands, taking in numerous caves. Here you can visit the Museum of Guayadeque (3km), which itself is set into a cave and offers a wealth of exhibits relating to the surrounding archaeological sites and geology of the ravine, local traditions and architecture.

Aguimes is centrally located for exploring the island, being just 30 minutes drive from both the tourist beaches in the south and from the city of Las Palmas in the north.

Nearby Attractions

The Arinaga Marine Reserve (9km), also known as El Cabron, is widely accepted as the best spot on the whole island for scuba diving, boasting prolific and colourful marine life in a scenic underwater world of caves, reefs and tunnels. Windsurfers will want to head a tad further south to the world class surfing beach at Pozo Izquierdo (14km), which is a venue for the annual PWA Windsurfing Tour.
